About The Position

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Technician will be responsible for driving the compliance of safety, health, and environmental programs at the site, adherence and alignment with applicable procedures. HSE Technician is expected to collaborate with employees across the site as well as regional stakeholders.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's License. In order to be eligible to drive a company car, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers – MVR will be reviewed as part of preemployment screening
  • Basic knowledge of IT (Internet, Excel, PPT, Word, facilities with systems)
  • Ability to work days, nights, rotating shifts, weekends and overtime as business needs require
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60lbs. (a bag of seed)

Nice To Haves

  • Basic working knowledge of OSHA & EPA requirements and regulations
  • Bachelor's degree in HSE, IH, Process Engineering
  • 3 years of experience in safety or manufacturing, agriculture or technical

Responsibilities

  • Display working knowledge of warehouse, plant and field operations
  • Promote an environment that continuously meets and improves established Bayer (HSE) Health, Safety and Environment manufacturing fundamentals
  • Drive the site HSE Safety Program and drive employee engagement, through safety projects and new initiatives, and timely reporting of safety issues
  • Promote continuous improvement of site safety culture through visible leadership
  • Drive employee engagement by creating internal audit opportunities with visible corrective action tracking
  • Coordinate onsite safety programs and provide mentorship to program owners
  • Mentor less experienced Safety technicians and coach employees across the site on basic safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with all hazardous work permits and site environmental permits
  • Support areas across the plant in driving the adoption of 5S practices to maintain an environment conducive to work, aligning with the labeling and ordering of tools
  • Utilize Focused Improvement (TapRoot) techniques to contribute to the improvement of processes and site safety program
  • Ensure alignment with key HSE stakeholders
  • Help keep metrics and other relevant information current on visual boards to drive teamwork and facilitate work processes
  • Participate in DDS (Daily Direction Setting) meetings and follow through on safety-related issues
  • Shared ownership of all safety related activities at the site including contract safety (CMR)
  • Coordination of required site safety and compliance inspections
  • Position entails driving a company vehicle. This may include being required to drive greater than 5,000 business miles annually in a personal, pooled, or rented vehicle OR being expected to frequently drive a pooled car as part of your job duties – regardless of mileage.
