About The Position

Reporting to the North America Health, Safety and Environmental Regional Manager and with daily reporting to the Facility Leader (in a Matrix organization), the Abbeville HSE Manager leads corporate and regulatory health, safety, and environmental initiatives and processes at the assigned location. The goal is to reduce team member injuries, ensure ongoing regulatory compliance, and minimize Company exposure. This position collaborates closely with Corporate HSE, facility leadership, various other corporate functions, and external agencies and resources. The role is responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety, and Environmental Leadership for both High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) Operations at the Abbeville, SC Campus. It provides daily direction, supervision, and leadership to one full-time Salaried HSE Specialist and one full-time HSE non-desk worker (hourly employee). The position drives employee engagement and accountability at all site levels to achieve a 'Courage to Care' culture and the belief that zero injuries are attainable. Responsibilities include the development, implementation, training, and maintenance of facility policies, programs, and procedures to reduce team member injury, minimize company exposure, and ensure compliance with the corporate HSE management system and all applicable HSE regulations (OSHA; EPA; DOT; etc.). The role ensures ongoing compliance with all environmental permits, regulations, and reporting requirements for the assigned facility (Air, Water, Waste) and is responsible for maintaining certification to ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 Standards, partnering with the Quality Department for the Integrated Management System. Additionally, the HSE Manager is responsible for timely and accurate reporting of all Corporate HSE metrics and data requests. The role proactively provides hands-on support in areas such as Health, Safety, and Environmental Procedure implementation (Corporate and site-specific), behavioral safety processes, corporate safety mandates, and interpretation of applicable regulatory regulations. It drives an incident reporting process that ensures effective investigation, reporting, corrective actions, and best practice sharing throughout their business unit and corporate. The HSE Manager conducts and assists with internal and external HSE audits and meets with regulatory agencies during facility inspections/audits as required. The role acts as a support resource in the development and review of facility-specific HSE training needs analysis, operational reviews, and new installation assessments. It partners with Facility leadership to participate in key HSE team meetings, Kaizen/Gemba events, and other key meetings where HSE representation is requested. The HSE Manager works closely with HSE counterparts and serves as a region representative to cross-regional forums for best practice sharing, idea exchange, and shared learning. The role also participates in other key HSE initiatives as assigned by the NA HSE Department or Facility Leader.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental, engineering, or other related field. Direct experience and time in HSE role may be used as a substitute for Degree.
  • 3+ years of direct experience with OSHA compliance, behavior-based safety, root cause evaluation, incident management, standards and procedural development, auditing, and training.
  • Demonstrated passion for safety and environmental excellence.
  • Knowledge of worker’s compensation regulations.
  • Experience with Environmental permit compliance and waste management.
  • Knowledge of ISO Management Systems (ISO14001:2015 & 45001:2018).
  • Strong organizational & planning skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills & problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with technology such as excel, PowerPoint, Word and other standard computer applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (oral & written), able to interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to travel periodically for meetings and participation in other site audits.
