About The Position

The HSE Manager will lead projects that shape the future of the community, foster collaboration across diverse teams, and deliver exceptional results that make a lasting impact. This role involves developing and implementing project Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and regulatory requirements, creating and delivering project-specific HSE training, and identifying industry statistics and hazards to communicate any expected/anticipated changes to project teams. The manager will also verify that hazard identification tools are in place, oversee and conduct formal HSE inspections and audits, and provide guidance and coaching to project teams and direct reports on audit requirements. Additionally, the role includes evaluating and verifying appropriate PPE usage, developing specialized PPE training, developing and evaluating the effectiveness of project emergency response plans, executing crisis communication plans, verifying equipment and tool inspections, participating in incident investigations, and monitoring work injuries to ensure modified work is followed and properly documented.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in OH&S or a related discipline.
  • 9 years of experience in a related industry, with direct experience in HSE.
  • 4 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Strong ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Expert knowledge of OH&S and environmental legislation related to projects/area.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others on HSE processes.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills on HSE topics to senior managers and projects.

Nice To Haves

  • CRSP certification preferred (CDN).
  • ASP certificate preferred (US).

Responsibilities

  • Develops and assists with implementation of project HSE and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops, and delivers project-specific HSE training. Assists with the development of project training. Assists with the development of district specific training.
  • Reviews project training objectives and project trend action plans. Identifies industry statistics and hazards and communicates any expected/anticipated changes to project teams.
  • Verifies that hazard identification tools are in place on the project(s) and evaluates areas for process improvement.
  • Oversees and conducts formal HSE inspections and audits.
  • Provides guidance and coaching to project teams and direct reports on audit requirements.
  • Evaluates and verifies that appropriate PPE is being used on project sites. Develops specialized PPE training as required.
  • Develops and evaluates effectiveness of project emergency response plan and executes crisis communication plan for project(s).
  • Verifies that equipment and tool inspections are being conducted and documented as per the program.
  • Participates in the investigation process as per the incident investigation matrix and determines when external resources are required.
  • Monitors work injury and ensures modified work is followed and properly documented.
