About The Position

Under the direction of the divisional Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), and in close collaboration with the regional Operations team, this position supports field activities to ensure they are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, client expectations, and industry best practices. This role is field-focused and operations-aligned, requiring extensive travel to Savanna’s field operations throughout Alberta and Northeast British Columbia. The expected work balance is approximately 80% field and 20% office. The HSE Advisor plays an important role in supporting Savanna’s Operational Excellence goals by helping field leaders and crews achieve reliable service, disciplined execution, capable crew development, safe movement, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of OH&S legislation, AER directives, WCB requirements, IRPs, and relevant industry standards;
  • Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and practical field-level follow-up;
  • Ability to identify trends using HSE and operational data and recommend practical improvement actions;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to coach, influence, and follow up effectively;
  • Able to build credibility with field crews, supervisors, Operations leaders, clients, and support teams;
  • Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and composure in high-pressure or changing conditions;
  • Uses a collaborative, solutions-focused approach that supports safe work, reliable service, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage field travel, multiple priorities, and changing operational needs;
  • Able to work independently while contributing positively within a team-oriented environment;
  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, adaptability, and practical problem-solving;
  • Willing and able to travel extensively to field locations throughout Alberta, Northeast British Columbia, and other areas of Western Canada as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar HSE role, with a commensurate background in practical field applications of workplace health, safety and environment processes in relevant industry is highly regarded;
  • Extensive incident investigation training and experience (Root Cause Analysis);
  • Working knowledge of OH&S, AER, WCB Regulations, and IRPs;
  • Maintain all required training certificates and tickets as per Savanna’s training matrix for this position (i.e. Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, etc.);
  • Must hold a valid Driver’s License in good standing with no more than six demerits within the past two years.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate/Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety (preferred);
  • Well servicing operations experience is a definite asset;

Responsibilities

  • Champion the Savanna One Principles and promote a field culture built on personal responsibility, operational discipline, hazard awareness, and continuous improvement;
  • Support Operations in achieving safe, reliable service delivery by identifying risks related to people, equipment, job planning, movement, and field execution;
  • Ensure Savanna’s Safety Management System is effectively implemented across the assigned region through coaching, mentoring, inspections, observations, and field-level support;
  • Participate in safety meetings, pre-job planning, Safe Starts, client reviews, training, and other activities that support communication, readiness, and disciplined execution;
  • Develop and maintain strong operational knowledge of well servicing activities, completion techniques, equipment movement, field hazards, and associated controls;
  • Lead or support incident investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions, and communication of learnings;
  • Utilize various data sets to identify trends and recommend practical loss prevention and improvement strategies;
  • Maintain knowledge of current OH&S legislation, AER directives, IRPs, WCB requirements, and other relevant HSE standards and regulations;
  • Participate in the HSE weekend on-call rotation and perform other duties as assigned.
