About The Position

Meskwaki Settlement School is seeking a dedicated HS Math Teacher to plan and organize learning activities, considering individual differences, cultural backgrounds, and educational needs of students. The teacher will maintain classroom order and discipline according to school policy, foster a positive and secure learning environment, and believe in the potential of all students to learn. Responsibilities include preparing daily and yearly plans, developing program charts, evaluating student progress, maintaining student records, and cooperating with colleagues and administration. The role involves motivating students, reporting progress to parents/guardians, administering discipline, attending staff meetings, and assisting with extracurricular and cultural activities. The teacher will also serve on the curriculum committee to support student development and provide supervision and guidance to teacher associates. Corrective action for student behavior and necessary training (First Aid, Blood Borne pathogens, CPR) are also part of the role. The position reports directly to the Principal and requires adherence to the Teacher Code of Ethics.

Requirements

  • Must possess a bachelor's degree.
  • Must possess Certification required by the Bureau of Indian Education and the State of Iowa.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize learning activities considering individual differences, cultural backgrounds, and educational needs of students.
  • Maintain good order and discipline in the classroom and school premises, consistent with the Meskwaki Settlement School Disciplinary Policy.
  • Ensure a positive and secure school climate to enhance overall learning and student achievement.
  • Prepare daily and yearly plans of all curricular activities.
  • Develop and maintain a daily program chart and record of students for various programs.
  • Prepare and display a schedule of all curricular activities.
  • Evaluate each child's progress and plan instructional methods accordingly.
  • Maintain and keep all necessary records for each student.
  • Keep records of attendance of students to be reported daily.
  • Cooperate with colleagues and administration in program development and teaching activities.
  • Initiate motivation and positive atmosphere for the utmost learning of each student.
  • Report regularly to the parent/guardian regarding their child's progress.
  • Administer discipline in accordance with the Board Policy of the Meskwaki Settlement School.
  • Attend regularly all meetings of the staff convened by the Principal.
  • Create and assist with extracurricular activities.
  • Create and assist with Cultural activities.
  • Serve on the curriculum committee to help achieve a curriculum beneficial to the Meskwaki Settlement School.
  • Provide daily supervision, guidance, and work as a team with teacher associates.
  • Monitor student behavior and initiate corrective action required.
  • Take training in programs necessary for the well-being of each child (e.g., First Aid, Blood Borne pathogens, CPR).
  • Follow the Teacher Code of Ethics.
