About The Position

The HS Drumline Instructor will direct the drum line and collaborate with the band director in developing programs and opportunities for students. This role involves preparing audition materials, recruiting potential members from middle schools, and providing expert instruction in marching percussion techniques for both battery and pit instruments. The instructor must demonstrate a strong understanding of rudimental drumming concepts, be available for all scheduled rehearsals and performances, and possess technical knowledge of equipment maintenance. Additionally, the instructor will develop a technique and method booklet for the percussion section.

Requirements

  • Experience in a leadership role in a high school or collegiate drumline.
  • Experience or training for percussion technique specific to marching battery and pit.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare audition materials and packets.
  • Visit middle schools and hand out audition material and recruit potential members.
  • Provide teaching expertise in the field of Marching Percussion with a competent knowledge of battery (snare, tenor, bass, and cymbals) and Keyboard (Glockenspiel, Xylophone, Vibraphone, Marimba) instrument techniques.
  • Demonstrate a solid foundation in contemporary rudimental drumming concepts if asked to perform both improvised and sight-reading notation.
  • Be available to attend all scheduled Percussion Rehearsals and Marching Band Performances/Rehearsals.
  • Provide a recommendation for proper sticks and mallet choices for appropriate tone production to enhance ensemble performance.
  • Possess a technical knowledge of equipment maintenance.
  • Develop a technique and method booklet that meets the educational needs of the percussion section for both drumline and pit.
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
