About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is seeking an HS Assistant Cheer Coach for the Washington HS. This role is directly responsible to the head coach and is expected to exhibit total loyalty to the program, the head coach, and other assistants. The assistant coach will be required to carry out all assignments given by the head coach. The district serves approximately 22,000 students and is recognized for its diverse student population and academic achievements, including Sumner Academy, ranked #6 nationally.

Requirements

  • Certified teacher or must qualify for Rule 10 approval through the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community.
  • Ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach as directed with organizing and directing coaching staff.
  • Collect physical examination forms and insurance release forms.
  • Report injuries to the school nurse.
  • Take inventory and submit a list of equipment needs.
  • Check out and collect all equipment.
  • Keep accurate records and reports of lost or stolen equipment.
  • Provide a roster of players.
  • Provide the Athletic Director a list of athletes to receive awards and plan the awards ceremony.
  • Ensure proper team conduct on trips and during contests.
  • Treat injuries or attend to athletes.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and uniforms.
  • Organize practice sessions.
