About The Position

As the HR Product Owner you play a critical role in guiding and advancing the development, enhancement, and strategic alignment of HR products with HR objectives and strategies. HR products encompass both technology solutions (Human Capital Management, Applicant Tracking System, Learning Management System, SaaS platforms) and data-driven tools (reports, dashboards, file extracts). You will collaborate with the HR Product Manager, leadership, functional teams, IT and other stakeholders to define the products and product roadmap. This hands-on role requires expertise in HR processes, systems, an agile mindset, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a rapidly evolving environment. Works closely with HR, IT, and cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities, develop technical requirements, and evangelize best practices that maximize the impact of HR technology and data solutions. In addition to HR Product Owner responsibilities, you will gain insight into the HR portfolio by maintaining the portfolio-level project view, how it maps to strategic priorities and ensuring that technology development efforts align with the broader HR roadmap. This individual contributor role reports to the Senior Manager HR Technology & Operations. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement for candidates within commuting distance of Piscataway, NJ, and a remote arrangement for candidates located outside Central New Jersey.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience BS in Information Technology, Business Analytics, Human Resources, or other analytical degree
  • 4-7 years Experience in HR Processes, HR Technology and/or People Analytics support
  • 2-4 years Product Owner or similar role with technical requirements
  • Employee-first mindset, serving as the voice of the user to deliver seamless, people-centered HR product experiences
  • Demonstrated success working with cross-functional teams from concept through delivery, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and measurable outcomes
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills, fostering collaboration, trust, and alignment across diverse teams
  • Experience with cloud based HR technology (Human Capital Management, Applicant Tracking, Learning Management) and analytical reporting; Oracle Fusion HCM, Oracle Analytics, Oracle Recruiting Cloud and/or Absorb a plus
  • Experience with agile development and applicable product owner or project management platforms; JIRA and Miro a plus
  • Strong analytical capabilities, leveraging data to influence decision-making and optimize product performance
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and translate complex ideas into clear, actionable insights
  • Proficient in Google Suite (Slides, Sheets, etc.) and/or MS Office Suite especially in advanced Excel (including Vlookup, Pivot tables, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) or equivalent Agile certification is a plus
  • Project Management (PMP) certification is a plus
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus
  • Experience with cloud based HR technology (Human Capital Management, Applicant Tracking, Learning Management) and analytical reporting; Oracle Fusion HCM, Oracle Analytics, Oracle Recruiting Cloud and/or Absorb a plus
  • Experience with agile development and applicable product owner or project management platforms; JIRA and Miro a plus

Responsibilities

  • Define and advance the HR product vision in collaboration with HR leadership, subject matter experts, agile development teams (HR and Shared Services) and other stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of HR product outcomes, ensure timely delivery, proactively manage risks and dependencies to support the achievement of project goals.
  • Manage and prioritize the HR product backlog for biweekly sprints and quarterly program increments to align with the HR roadmap.
  • Actively engage in agile events, including daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Create and manage features, user stories, and subtasks with clear user acceptance criteria.
  • Evangelize best practices, keeping the team up to speed on trends in HR technology and agile methodologies.
  • Maintain the HR portfolio-level project view and how it maps to strategic priorities.
  • Provide quarterly updates of the portfolio view to the HR leadership team.
  • Project manage the biannual employee engagement survey, annual trust index survey, business continuity planning and special projects as required.
  • May be assigned to backup HR technology administration and user acceptance testing.
