About The Position

The HR Pathway Programme is designed to attract diverse talent into the HR function and provide them with opportunities to build broad experience, professional capability, and future leadership potential. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based at the Southampton Store Support Office, involving a structured on-the-job apprenticeship scheme lasting approximately 36 months. The program includes comprehensive training, support towards industry-recognised HR qualifications (CIPD Level 3 and Level 5), and a minimum of three rotational roles across different HR specialisms such as Talent Acquisition, People Operations, People Partnering, Employment Relations, and Talent, Leadership and Learning. There will also be an opportunity for a rotation within another Kingfisher Group company. The program aims to strengthen the HR leadership succession pipeline by developing individuals with strong judgment, drive, and influence. The role requires commitment to professional study, embodying company behaviors, strong organizational and communication skills, and a collaborative approach. Upon completion, participants will remain in an HR role with support for further progression.

Requirements

  • Commitment to professional study alongside the role, including managing apprenticeship learning time effectively.
  • Ability to role model B&Q Behaviours and Judgement, Drive and Influence in day-to-day work.
  • Strong organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to balance role, study and rotation commitments.
  • Clear communication and presentation skills, with confidence to share learning and ideas.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective relationships across HR and the wider business.
  • A proactive approach to seeking feedback, bringing fresh ideas and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Ambitious about building a long-term career in HR.
  • Shows early evidence of potential to grow into a broader leadership role.

  • Has a growth mindset and is willing to take ownership of their development.
  • Is curious, confident and motivated to make a positive difference.
  • Ability to attend an in-person assessment day on Friday 31st July 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Gain broad, hands-on experience and exposure to a variety of HR specialisms through rotational roles.
  • Develop strong communication, prioritisation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Build a deeper understanding of B&Q’s business and the breadth of the HR function.
  • Contribute to improving work processes and simplifying procedures.
  • Help build an environment where everyone feels they belong.
  • Commit time each week to apprenticeship learning, including coaching sessions and progress reviews.
  • Role model B&Q Behaviours and demonstrate Judgement, Drive and Influence in day-to-day work.
  • Seek feedback proactively, bring fresh ideas, and identify improvement opportunities.
