About The Position

The HR Operations Specialist Lead plays a key role in supporting and enhancing HR operations across the BYU Marriott School of Business. This position partners closely with the HR Business Partner, department leaders, and campus HR teams to deliver high-quality, efficient, and compliant HR services for staff, faculty, and student employees. This role also provides operational leadership, supports HR initiatives, and helps create a positive and engaging employee experience across the college.

Requirements

  • Associate degree and two years of professional office experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across organizational levels.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities independently and meet critical deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and cloud-based collaboration tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree
  • Four years of experience in HR operations, office administration, or related field.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday), change management, or organizational culture initiatives.
  • Experience in higher education and familiarity with BYU systems and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary escalation point for routine, complex or non-routine HR operational inquiries from college HR Operations Specialists.
  • Partner with hiring managers to draft, review, and post job descriptions and job postings, ensuring compliance with university policies.
  • Coordinate recruiting efforts, including interview scheduling, candidate communication, and use of hiring tools and systems.
  • Serve as primary HR resource for the Deans Office, managing student employment processes such as hiring, terminations, and wage changes.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to HR Operations Specialists throughout the college, helping ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery.
  • Plan and lead monthly HR Operations meetings and contribute to training, communication, and alignment across the college.
  • Lead and support employee engagement initiatives, including New Employee Orientation, recognition programs, and professional development events.
  • Hire, train, and mentor student employees, including conducting 1:1 meetings and supporting their ongoing development.
