HR Manager, NYC

GitGuardian•New York, NY
•$130,000 - $150,000•Hybrid

About The Position

GitGuardian is a global cybersecurity scale-up with offices in Paris, New York City, and Boston. The company is a leader in securing the credential layer, protecting secrets that allow code, machines, and AI agents to access systems. They are trusted by over 600,000 developers and 50 Fortune 500 companies. The People team is responsible for the full employee lifecycle and translating company strategy into HR plans. The US team is growing from 35 to 60 people, with the company's center of gravity shifting to the US. This role will be the main partner for Go-To-Market managers, owning the US employee experience end-to-end. It's a generalist role in a fast-growing startup, with existing foundations in payroll, multi-state setup, and performance management, offering the opportunity to shape many aspects of HR. As the team grows, a dedicated US HR Operations hire is planned, allowing this role to focus more on business partnering. The position reports to the Chief People Officer in France and collaborates with various teams across the company. Travel to Paris 2-3 times a year is required.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience owning US payroll, benefits, and multi-state compliance, ideally through a PEO (e.g., Justworks, TriNet, Rippling).
  • Solid experience as an HR Business Partner for business teams, ideally sales or GTM managers, including senior leaders, in a tech startup or scale-up.
  • Ability to influence rather than enforce.
  • Understanding of manager needs and ability to bring solutions.
  • Good judgment on when to make exceptions and when to hold the line.
  • Strong business judgment to size risks and help the business move fast without cutting corners.
  • Ownership and accountability: ability to identify issues, fix them, and learn from feedback.
  • Discretion with confidential information.
  • Warmth and people care in interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an international company, ideally working with European (French) colleagues.
  • Experience using AI tools in day-to-day work and automating at least one HR workflow.
  • Experience with compensation benchmarking.
  • Experience with US immigration.
  • Experience with global mobility.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the go-to People Partner for US Account Executives, Channel, Channel Marketing, BDR, and Sales Enablement teams in the US and France.
  • Coach managers on team and individual situations including ramp-up, performance, difficult conversations, promotions, and exits.
  • Help managers build effective, high-performing teams.
  • Ensure performance reviews happen and performance is managed effectively.
  • Support individuals who need performance assistance.
  • Handle employee relations across the designated perimeter with a fair, documented process.
  • Provide managers with sound, business-minded advice on risk, in compliance with US and French labor law.
  • Own the accuracy of US payroll end-to-end through the PEO (Justworks), including new hire setup, separations, severance, final pay, retro adjustments, variable pay, and correct tax treatment.
  • Reconcile payroll each cycle and challenge the PEO when necessary.
  • Manage benefits administration, including running open enrollment and overseeing health, dental, vision, and retirement programs through the PEO.
  • Evaluate plan options at each renewal.
  • Administer federal and state leave programs.
  • Keep handbooks, notices, and acknowledgments current.
  • Track evolving employment law in every state where GitGuardian has employees.
  • Support compensation benchmarking and pay equity in collaboration with Talent Acquisition, Finance, and managers.
  • Own a smooth onboarding and a clean, compliant offboarding process aligned with global practices.
  • Coordinate with outside immigration counsel on US visa sponsorship.
  • Support cross-border moves between Paris and NYC.
  • Identify HR workflows that can be automated and utilize AI to free up time for strategic tasks.
