HR Manager, NYC

About The Position

GitGuardian is a global cybersecurity scale-up with offices in Paris, New York City, and Boston. The company is seeking an HR Manager for its New York City office. This hybrid role requires 3 days a week in the office. The People team is responsible for the entire employee lifecycle, translating company strategy into hiring, performance, and development plans across Europe and the US. The US team is currently 35 people and expected to grow to 60. The HR Manager will be the primary partner for Go-To-Market managers and will own the US employee experience from onboarding to offboarding. While much is already established (PEO for payroll, multi-state setup, performance reviews, engagement surveys), there is significant opportunity to shape processes. The role will eventually transition more towards business partnering as a dedicated US HR Operations hire is planned. The position reports to the Chief People Officer in France and collaborates with other People Partners, Talent Acquisition, People Ops, managers, and executives globally. Travel to Paris and Boston is required 2-3 times per year.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience owning US payroll, benefits, and multi-state compliance, ideally through a PEO (e.g., Justworks, TriNet, Rippling).
  • Solid experience as an HR Business Partner for business teams, preferably sales or GTM managers, including senior leaders, in a tech startup or scale-up.
  • Experience partnering only with engineering teams is not sufficient for this role.
  • Ability to influence rather than enforce, understanding manager needs and providing solutions.
  • Skill in determining when to grant exceptions and when to maintain policy.
  • Strong business judgment to assess risks and facilitate business velocity without compromising standards.
  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability, proactively identifying and fixing issues, and learning from feedback.
  • Discretion with confidential information and a warm approach to people.
  • Match at least 70% of the essential criteria.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an international company, particularly working with European (French) colleagues.
  • Experience using AI tools in daily work and automating at least one HR workflow.
  • Experience with compensation benchmarking.
  • Experience with US immigration and global mobility.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the go-to People Partner for US Account Executives, Channel, Channel Marketing, BDR, and Sales Enablement teams in the US and France.
  • Coach managers on team and individual situations, including ramp-up, performance, difficult conversations, promotions, and exits.
  • Assist managers in building effective, high-performing teams.
  • Collaborate with the HRBP in Paris to cover the rest of the organization.
  • Ensure performance reviews are conducted and performance is actively managed, providing support to individuals as needed.
  • Support managers in their development, offering structure or nuance as required.
  • Manage employee relations across the designated perimeter with a fair, documented process.
  • Provide managers with sound, business-minded advice on risk, ensuring compliance with US and French labor law.
  • Own the accuracy of US payroll end-to-end, including new hire setup, separations, severance, final pay, retro adjustments, variable pay, and correct tax treatment.
  • Reconcile payroll each cycle and challenge the PEO (Justworks) when necessary.
  • Administer benefits programs, including managing open enrollment and evaluating plan options during renewals for health, dental, vision, and retirement programs.
  • Administer federal and state leave programs.
  • Maintain up-to-date handbooks, notices, and acknowledgments.
  • Track evolving employment law in all states where GitGuardian has employees, including classification, paid leave mandates, workers' comp, and restrictive covenants.
  • Support compensation benchmarking and pay equity initiatives in collaboration with Talent Acquisition, Finance, and managers.
  • Oversee a smooth onboarding process and a clean, compliant offboarding process, ensuring global alignment.
  • Coordinate with outside immigration counsel for US visa sponsorship and support cross-border moves between Paris and NYC.
  • Identify HR workflows that can be automated and leverage AI to improve efficiency.
