About The Position

Under direction, the Human Resources Immigration Coordinator provides administrative support services necessary to facilitate the enrollment and/or employment of international students, scholars and staff and to ensure institutional compliance with related institutional policies and governmental regulations. This position supports the HR-Immigration team and reports to the Assistant Director, Immigration.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident in compliance with federal eligibility requirements for DSO and ARO roles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HR ERP software is preferred (SAP, Workday, etc.).
  • Demonstrated interest in immigration and international student and scholar issues.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, maintains and updates employee and student immigration records in HR systems and databases (SAP, Employee Central, Immigration Tracker, etc.).
  • Ensures timely and accurate data entry upon hire and when immigration status is extended and/or changed.
  • Works with tax, finance and payroll teams to ensure applicable tax benefits are applied to pay statements.
  • Manages shared inboxes for HR-Immigration emails. Assigns case specific questions to appropriate HR-Immigration team members and responds to general email inquiries when appropriate.
  • Coordinates onsite distribution of mail, including government issued approval notices. Schedules in-person pick-up of approval notices and creates FedEx labels when needed.
  • Coordinates and completes I-9 reverifications for sponsored employees.
  • Runs expiration reports for HR-Immigration team members and communicates immigration expirations to WCM departments and employees on a timely basis.
  • Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for Weill Cornell Medicine.
  • Handles routine tasks and updates in SEVIS for both F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors (address/phone/email updates, travel validations, etc.).
  • Performs other administrative duties as needed.
