About The Position

The HR Generalist role encompasses a broad range of human resources functions, including employee benefits administration, HR operations, payroll processing, recruitment support, and onboarding. This position is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of the HR department and compliance with all relevant regulations. The HR Generalist will coordinate employee benefit programs, manage payroll, maintain personnel records, assist with recruitment efforts, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.

  • Maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.
  • Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.
  • Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate employee benefit programs, including health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, Flex Spending plans, and Employee Assistance Program.
  • Consult with employees and vendors regarding benefit eligibility, enrollment timelines, and procedures.
  • Review and recommend improvements to current benefits programs.
  • Maintain electronic connections with vendors and update all records.
  • Track benefit enrollment for government reporting purposes.
  • Administer COBRA notifications and payments.
  • Manage and monitor ACA compliance.
  • Coordinate requests and responses for employee Family and Medical Leave and Leaves of Absences.
  • Communicate time away policies to employees and managers.
  • Assist employees with Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System benefits.
  • Serve as the primary processor for bi-weekly payroll in accordance with Wage and Hour guidelines.
  • Train new employees on the electronic timekeeping system.
  • Maintain compliant employee, volunteer, student, and contracted personnel records.
  • Keep photo files of hospital staff current on the hospital’s Intranet site.
  • Support the annual review process by recording evaluations and merit calculations.
  • Complete initial orientation and compliance records for new hires, students, volunteers, and contracted staff.
  • Enter, receive, track, and maintain updated electronic and paper personnel file records.
  • Track and maintain updated personnel file records with information such as BLS, ACLS, professional licensure, TNCC, and professional certification renewals.
  • Assist with the preparation and execution of market surveys and increases.
  • Assist in unemployment claims, including filing, data, responses, and hearings.
  • Assist with the preparation and dissemination of information from employee engagement surveys.
  • Coordinate ongoing employee data changes and communicate with the HR team.
  • Assist in collecting and compiling data into reports for HR operations and metrics.
  • Assist in performance improvement projects related to Human Resources.
  • Assist with training and development requests.
  • Cross-train and serve as back-up for the Recruiting & Retention Coordinator.
