About The Position

Join the UW-Madison Libraries HR team and support the people who lead in curating, preserving, and sharing knowledge to advance the mission and strategic priorities of our world-class research university. As part of the Libraries HR, we serve more than 200 full-time staff and 300 part-time and student employees in multiple locations with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and service. We provide timely, professional, and positive support that builds strong partnerships across the Libraries and beyond. As a HR Generalist, you will deliver frontline HR services across payroll, benefits, recruitment, and student support. You will work closely with colleagues and stakeholder committees to shape a positive employee experience. In this capacity, you will take on a variety of duties that ensure our employees receive timely and effective HR support, including, but not limited to: Payroll: Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and timely Benefits: Provide guidance related to benefits, including new hires, life events, and open enrollment Student Lifecycle: Process student hires, terminations, compensation changes, and promotions Employee Lifecycle: Support the employee lifecycle by onboarding and offboarding employees and processing various HR transactions HR Compliance: Conducts audits to ensure HR compliance and completion of staff training Process Improvement: Create and update process documentation and identify improvements that drive consistency and efficiency Parking: Facilitate parking assignments for employees This position is eligible for partial remote work. A remote work agreement may allow for a maximum of 40% remote per week. This position is full-time, 100%. Ongoing/Renewable

Requirements

  • Knowledge of practices in payroll, benefits, and recruitment
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships
  • Strong organization and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development, implementation, interpretation, and revision of work unit Human Resources policies and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations (20%)
  • Executes and audits work transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines (30%)
  • Receives, responds to, and resolves employee questions and problems (20%)
  • Represents unit/program at institutional workshops, informational meetings, and training sessions (10%)
  • Provides consultation, performs analytics, and/or maintains personnel files, communications, and materials for work unit through various mediums (20%)
