About The Position

We’re partnering with a small, close-knit nonprofit supporting adults with disabilities in a residential and day program setting. With ~70 employees and growing, this organization is known for its warm, people-first culture, where staff build real relationships with the individuals they serve. Located right on the lake near Geneva, this is a team that works hard, supports each other, and genuinely enjoys spending time together. The HR function is in transition, and the team is looking for someone who can step in quickly, bring structure, and help shape what HR looks like moving forward. This is an opportunity to own the day-to-day AND help build better systems and processes over time.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of HR experience (Generalist or strong Coordinator)
  • Strong organizational skills; you keep things moving and on track
  • Experience with recruiting and employee-facing HR work
  • Knowledge of FMLA, leave tracking, and HR compliance basics
  • Comfortable working independently (no internal HR team, support from outsourced company)

Nice To Haves

  • SHRM certification or similar
  • Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or regulated environments

Responsibilities

  • Manage job postings, applicant tracking, and candidate communication
  • Coordinate interviews and support hiring managers
  • Run background checks, credentialing, and new hire documentation
  • Own onboarding logistics (systems access, training coordination, etc.)
  • Be the go-to for employee questions (payroll, PTO, benefits, policies)
  • Support payroll processes (Paychex) and ensure accurate timekeeping
  • Maintain HR files, track certifications, and ensure clean documentation
  • Track FMLA, PFL, workers’ comp, and required certifications
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies
  • Support audits and maintain organized employee records
  • Act as a first point of contact for employee concerns
  • Help foster a positive, supportive workplace culture
  • Partner with leadership on HR best practices and improvements
  • Help build and improve HR processes and systems
  • Opportunity to expand into a more strategic HR role over time
