About The Position

The HR Engagement Specialist is responsible for creating and implementing team member programs for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) that strengthen employee engagement, culture, recognition, inclusion, and the overall Tribal Operations team member experience. This role focuses on driving participation, conducting new hire orientation, gathering team member feedback, and developing initiatives that foster connection, belonging, and organizational commitment. This role owns the development and coordination of Tribal Operations team member events and engagement initiatives, such as appreciation meals, the annual Service Awards ceremony, monthly appreciation pop-up events, and more. The HR Engagement Specialist will partner with the broader HR Department and Marketing and Communications team to ensure HR events and engagement activities are communicated appropriately through the necessary channels, offering insights to encourage participation. This role is also responsible for delivering new hire orientation and will collaborate with the Talent Management team, HR Communications Specialist, and HR Business Partners on successful execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in communications and events planning.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to adapt styles to reflect the stakeholder, audience, and message.
  • Experience partnering effectively with all levels of HR, leaders, and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Suite.
  • Demonstrated organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead Tribal Operations team member events and experiences from ideation to completion. This includes designing and planning the event or campaign, partnering with internal stakeholders, managing vendors, engaging with volunteers, coordinating setup, collecting feedback, and capturing outcomes.
  • Support the overall team member experience across the employee lifecycle by delivering new hire orientation, developing engagement resources and tools, and identifying opportunities to support retention.
  • Create campaigns or recognition programs that celebrate team member achievements and milestones.
  • Collaborate directly with HR Communications Specialist to develop communications plans related to team member engagement events and initiatives.
  • Champion team member value proposition and the SMSC’s core values and integrate into events.
