HR Director Interim– Healthcare
About The Position
Whitman Hospital & Medical Clinics (WHMC), located in the charming rural community of Colfax, Washington—just 30 minutes from Pullman, home of Washington State University—is seeking an experienced Interim HR Director to provide leadership and support during a transitional period. WHMC is a Critical Access Hospital serving its community with approximately 300 employees and a dedicated HR team of 3 staff members. The HR Director will report directly to the CEO and play a key role in maintaining continuity, supporting staff, and ensuring compliance across all HR functions. This is a unique opportunity to make an immediate impact within a collaborative, mission-driven healthcare organization while experiencing the beauty and pace of rural Eastern Washington—with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent role if it’s the right fit.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR leadership experience in a healthcare setting required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support HR teams in a dynamic environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and trust-building skills.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop team members.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of all core HR functions, including payroll, benefits, recruitment, compensation, and employee relations
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal employment laws and regulations
- Support and guide HR team members, fostering development and continuity
- Partner with leadership to address organizational needs and employee concerns
- Maintain strong communication and follow-through across departments
