About The Position

The HR Consultant reports to the Director of People, Culture & Engagement and leads and supports projects, programs, and initiatives across the People, Culture & Engagement portfolio, helping bring our purpose of caring for people beyond their expectations to life. As a senior individual contributor, the HR Consultant designs, implements, coordinates, and improves people-related initiatives in areas such as employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, performance, development, engagement, occupational health and safety, policy, and HR processes. The role combines strong project leadership, Canadian HR expertise, and thoughtful collaboration to help ensure people initiatives are well planned, well executed, values-aligned, and supportive of the employee experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support projects across the People, Culture & Engagement portfolio, including planning, coordination, implementation, communication, and measurement.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, tools, resources, and rollout approaches that support clear execution and adoption.
  • Coordinate with leaders and internal partners, including health and safety stakeholders, to keep projects on track, manage priorities, and support successful outcomes.
  • Lead or contribute to projects and initiatives related to employee relations, workplace practices, accommodation processes, investigations support, respectful workplace matters, and occupational health and safety priorities.
  • Develop and improve tools, templates, documentation, and resources that support consistency, fairness, and practical application in employee-related and workplace safety matters.
  • Provide thoughtful HR input to support project decisions, implementation planning, communication, and leader adoption.
  • Lead and support initiatives to improve recruitment, selection, onboarding, and early employee experience practices across BigSteelBox.
  • Coordinate project work related to job profiles, interview resources, candidate experience, onboarding materials, and process improvements.
  • Partner with hiring leaders and internal stakeholders to implement practical improvements that strengthen hiring effectiveness and onboarding consistency.
  • Lead or coordinate projects that support performance management, leader development, learning initiatives, and employee growth programs.
  • Develop resources, processes, training content, and implementation supports that help leaders apply people practices consistently and effectively.
  • Support rollout, communication, feedback collection, and continuous improvement related to leadership and development initiatives.
  • Lead and support policy, process, and program improvement initiatives that strengthen clarity, consistency, and employee experience.
  • Review current practices, gather input, identify gaps, and recommend practical improvements that align with business needs and BigSteelBox values.
  • Support change management, communications, and implementation planning to help new or updated practices be understood and adopted.
  • Coordinate project work related to HR systems, reporting tools, documentation standards, and operational improvements.
  • Lead or support occupational health and safety projects in partnership with operational leaders and health and safety stakeholders, including initiatives related to training, documentation, communication, compliance support, and process improvement.
