About The Position

Distyl AI is seeking its first HR Business Partner to report directly to the Head of People. This role will be instrumental in defining the business partnering function and building its core capabilities. The HRBP will support a client group comprising engineers, researchers, AI strategists, growth teams, and their leaders. A passion for technology and its possibilities is essential, as the supported teams are primarily involved in building and shipping technical systems. The role offers a unique opportunity to shape how the People function scales within the company, with typical daily activities including coaching individuals through significant career moments, diagnosing and resolving organizational issues, researching compensation for novel roles, and facilitating manager skill-building sessions.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years of HR experience with a background in business partnering.
  • Experience as an embedded partner to a leadership team.
  • Proven ability to coach employees and managers through difficult situations.
  • Experience navigating complex employee relations issues and organizational changes with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Direct, kind, and low-ego approach to work and collaboration.
  • Ability to provide feedback thoughtfully and focus on outcomes.
  • Strong coaching skills, with the ability to coach managers rather than solve problems for them, and demonstrable examples of leaders improving due to your coaching.
  • Compensation literacy: ability to read bands, explain leveling decisions, and manage off-cycle requests and exceptions.
  • Experience in organizational design and change management, including running team-level restructures or leader transitions from design through follow-through.
  • Systems thinking: ability to understand systems before designing interventions, differentiate symptoms from causes, and resist quick fixes.
  • Builder's instinct: experience operating without a playbook and creating one; comfort being the first in a role.
  • Passion for technology and its possibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Tech or AI background is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting engineers, researchers, or technical leaders at a technology company and earning their trust.
  • Understanding of how technical teams work, what they respect, and what makes them disengage.
  • Experience within an AI or applied-AI company is a plus.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with managers and leaders to address team performance, structure, hiring plans, and difficult conversations.
  • Provide coaching to managers and individual contributors on growth, feedback, and transitions to improve leadership effectiveness and team strength.
  • Define and implement evidence-based frameworks to support company scaling and ensure fair and thoughtful system design.
  • Advise managers on compensation decisions, including offers, promotions, and merit adjustments, ensuring fluency in the company's banding and philosophy.
  • Lead team-level organizational design and change management initiatives, including restructuring, leader transitions, and scope shifts, managing design, sequencing, communication, and follow-through.
  • Analyze engagement data, attrition signals, and qualitative feedback to identify and report on organizational dynamics to the leadership team.
  • Utilize AI tools daily for tasks such as documentation, analysis, and preparation, and create repeatable systems leveraging AI.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $180,000-$220,000, depending on experience, location, and level.
  • Meaningful equity.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents.
  • Flexible time off.
  • Retirement and financial planning benefits, including access to pre-tax HSA, FSA, and commuter accounts, 401(k), and financial coaching resources.
  • Comprehensive wellness benefits, including physical fitness, mental well-being, and fertility and family-building benefits through Carrot.
  • Complimentary in-office lunches and snacks.
  • Access to state-of-the-art AI models, generous usage of modern AI tools, and real-world business problems.
  • Ownership of high-impact projects across top enterprises.
  • A mission-driven, fast-moving culture that values curiosity, pragmatism, and excellence.
