About The Position

Corvid HPC is hiring an HPC/CAE Applications Engineer to apply computational physics, simulation workflows, and high-performance computing to engineering challenges across a range of industries. The role sits at the intersection of bare-metal supercomputing and advanced simulation, working directly with client engineering teams to enable, optimize, and scale computational workflows. It is not a traditional design or component-analysis position; the focus is HPC execution, troubleshooting, scaling, and automation rather than owning designs or running routine single-part analyses. The position is based in-office at Corvid’s Lake Norman campus in Mooresville, North Carolina. The company says remote or hybrid flexibility may become available over time for top-performing individual contributors. The target compensation is $85,000–$135,000 OTE, consisting of base salary, quarterly technical compensation, and an annual bonus. Applicants must be U.S. Persons. Corvid HPC is an aggressive-growth startup originating from Corvid Technologies, a defense innovator with more than 20 years of history. The company provides secure, bare-metal supercomputing for computational physics and works alongside client engineering teams to optimize, troubleshoot, and scale demanding workflows. The role offers exposure to simulation and workflow challenges in areas including hypersonics, defense, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing, as well as collaboration with Corvid Technologies developers, analysis teams, and Linux/HPC infrastructure administrators. Potential growth paths include deeper technical specialization or commercial and client-enablement work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computational Physics, or a related STEM field.
  • Academic focus or upper-level coursework in computational physics or continuum mechanics disciplines, such as fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, heat transfer, solid mechanics, or finite element methods.
  • Hands-on CAE experience in CFD or FEA, which may come from professional roles, internships, senior design or capstone projects, collegiate engineering teams, or other experience.
  • Basic coding or scripting experience with Python or Bash and/or familiarity with command-line Linux environments.
  • Must be a U.S. Person.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Engineering or a related STEM field.
  • Three to five years of relevant engineering or computational simulation experience.
  • Team leadership experience and sustained commitment in collective group environments, such as athletic teams, performing arts, ROTC, volunteer fire or EMS, engineering teams, student organizations, scouting, or community service.
  • Experience with multiple commercial or open-source solvers, such as Ansys Fluent or Mechanical, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, STAR-CCM+, NASTRAN, OpenFOAM, or specialized hydrocodes.
  • Experience submitting, monitoring, or managing jobs through HPC schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, or LSF.
  • Broad IT and systems knowledge, including Windows, Linux administration concepts, and basic networking fundamentals.
  • Experience building or compiling computational software in a Linux/HPC environment, including open-source solvers, solver extensions, C or Fortran user-defined functions, or CMake/Makefiles.
  • Exposure to web or database development tools such as Python web frameworks, REST APIs, SQL, Streamlit/Dash, or Open OnDemand.
  • Curiosity or experience with next-generation computational workflows, surrogate modeling, Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs), or AI-assisted physics tools.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve solver runtime errors, custom scripting bottlenecks, GUI and remote-desktop integration issues, and job-scheduling problems on high-core-count clusters.
  • Partner with client engineering teams to onboard CAE models, optimize hardware selection, and streamline large-scale simulation execution.
  • Build and maintain Python and Bash scripts to automate parametric sweeps, optimization loops, and multi-physics simulation pipelines.
  • Run technical benchmarks and scaling studies to demonstrate performance improvements to prospective and current clients and evaluate new server hardware architectures.
