HPC/CAE Applications Engineer

Corvid HPC•Mooresville, NC
•$85,000 - $135,000•Onsite

About The Position

Corvid HPC is seeking an HPC/CAE Applications Engineer passionate about computational physics, simulation workflows, and HPC. This role opens the door to a varied, rewarding, and lucrative career path. Sitting at the intersection of bare-metal supercomputing and advanced simulation, you will apply your computational background to solve diverse engineering challenges alongside the world's most innovative companies. This is not a traditional design or analysis position. While you work with complex models daily, owning component designs or running routine single-part loops isn't a day-to-day responsibility. Your focus is solving HPC-level execution, scaling, and automation challenges.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computational Physics, or a related STEM field.
  • Academic focus or upper-level coursework in computational physics or continuum mechanics disciplines (e.g., fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, heat transfer, solid mechanics, or finite element methods).
  • Hands-on CAE experience (CFD or FEA) gained through Professional roles, Internships, Senior Design / Capstone projects, collegiate engineering teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja SAE) or other.
  • Basic coding/scripting experience (Python or Bash) and/or familiarity with command-line Linux environments.
  • Must be a U.S. Person.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering or related STEM field.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant engineering or computational simulation experience.
  • Proven team leadership and sustained commitment in collective group environments (e.g., athletic team captain, marching band / performing arts leadership, ROTC, volunteer fire/EMS, FSAE/Baja sub-team lead, student organization executive, Eagle Scout / Gold Award, or community service leadership).
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple commercial or open-source solvers (e.g., Ansys Fluent/Mechanical, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, STAR-CCM+, NASTRAN, OpenFOAM, or specialized hydrocodes).
  • Prior experience submitting, monitoring, or managing jobs through HPC schedulers (e.g., Slurm, PBS, LSF).
  • General literacy across Windows, Linux administration concepts, and basic networking fundamentals-a strong technical curiosity that bridges the gap between pure engineering and IT infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience building or compiling computational software packages in a Linux/HPC environment (e.g., compiling open-source solvers, custom solver extensions, C/Fortran user-defined functions, CMake/Makefiles).
  • Exposure to web or database development tools (e.g., Python web frameworks, REST APIs, SQL, Streamlit/Dash, Open OnDemand).
  • Curiosity or experience with next-generation computational workflows, surrogate modeling, Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs), or AI-assisted physics tools.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve runtime solver errors, custom scripting bottlenecks, GUI/remote desktop integration issues, and job scheduling hurdles across high-core-count clusters.
  • Partner with client engineering teams across industries to onboard CAE models, optimize hardware selection, and streamline large-scale simulation execution.
  • Build and maintain custom Python and Bash scripts to automate parametric sweeps, optimization loops, and multi-physics simulation pipelines.
  • Execute technical benchmarks and scaling studies to demonstrate speedups to prospective/current clients and evaluate new server hardware architectures.

Benefits

  • On-Target Earnings (OTE) = Base Salary + Quarterly Technical Comp + Annual Bonus
  • Vast Exposure & Accelerated Growth
  • High-Accountability Team Culture
  • Collaborative Technical Ecosystem
  • Flexible Growth Pathways
