About The Position

Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld San Diego is seeking energetic, creative, and fearless performers to join their Scare Squad for the 2026 season. This role is specifically for Scare Actor positions, involving haunting pathways, terrifying guests, and bringing haunted environments to life. This virtual audition is not for specialty roles such as Vignette Characters, M.C./Hosts, DJs, Sliders, Stilt Walkers, Contortionists, or other specialty performance roles, which require in-person auditions.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must have flexible availability Thursday through Sunday throughout the scheduled event dates (September 11 – November 1, 2026).
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Must be comfortable performing indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
• Ability to work varying shifts, including opening, closing, and after-hours rehearsals.
• Must be comfortable with atmospheric effects such as strobes, fog, smoke, haze, mist, bubbles, snow, scents, etc.
• Must be comfortable performing in multi-layered clothing, face masks (partial or full), wigs, and other theatrical costuming.
• Strong verbal communication skills required.
• Must complete both the screening questions and the virtual audition submission.

Nice To Haves

• Previous guest experience in a high-volume environment preferred.
• Previous experience in Theme Park Entertainment, Dance, Theatre, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Haunt pathways, terrify guests, and bring haunted environments to life.
• Perform as a stationary or active Haunted House Performer, potentially with scripted dialogue.
• Engage with guests as a roaming, interactive Pathway Scare Performer throughout the park.
• Deliver spine-tingling performances and unforgettable scares.
• Collaborate with Production and Entertainment teams.
• Accept performance feedback and adapt accordingly.
• Perform a variety of vocalizations, including screams, gasps, wails, and vocal manipulation.
• Stand, sit, kneel, crawl, lay down, squat, bend, reach, and/or jump repeatedly throughout a shift.
• Positively interact with guests and team members of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
• Be flexible in work locations based on business needs and show placement.
• Be a team player.
