About The Position

The Housing Support Worker (HSW) with e4c’s Adult Housing Supports program helps individuals and families experiencing homelessness achieve long-term housing stability and overall well-being. Using a recovery-oriented, wrap-around approach, the HSW supports participants in developing personalized goals, life skills, financial stability, wellness practices, and household management. This role involves connecting participants with internal and external resources, advocating for access to essential services, and promoting independence through guided timelines and gradual involvement. The HSW works collaboratively with Homeward Trust and the Government of Alberta to address the root causes of homelessness, foster self-sufficiency, and support participants in successfully transitioning out of homelessness with dignity and lasting success.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Sociology, Education or related field.
  • Suicide Intervention certification.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and vehicle.
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (min. $2 million liability), registration and 3-year drivers abstract.
  • De-escalation certification.
  • 2+ year experience supporting marginalized, high-risk, or vulnerable populations, including Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of social services, harm reduction, sexual exploitation, trauma, addictions, mental health, homelessness, and Indigenous culture.
  • Experience de-escalating crises and managing potentially volatile situations, including individuals under stress, influence, or in mental health crisis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with diverse populations.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, database applications, and general computer operations.
  • Ability to submit a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check prior to successful employment.

Responsibilities

  • Support participants in securing, setting up, and maintaining housing using a recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma-informed approach.
  • Build trust-based relationships and guide participants through goal-setting, life skills development, and action plans to promote independence.
  • Connect participants to internal and community resources, including income supports, healthcare, and social services.
  • Advocate for participants with landlords, service providers, and community organizations to remove barriers to housing stability.
  • Provide direct care, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution to enhance participant well-being and capacity.
  • Foster natural supports, community engagement, and accountability processes to ensure long-term self-sufficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, adhere to e4c policies, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
