About The Position

This position provides on-site support for the coordinated maintenance and upkeep of Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Housing units in Piegan, MT, Sweetgrass, MT, and Del Bonita, MT. The role is home-based at Piegan, MT, requiring visits to the other locations, with a government vehicle provided for site support. The Housing Specialist is responsible for both administrative tasks related to housing management and hands-on general maintenance and upkeep of the units, including responding to service requests, performing preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, and conducting general housing repairs for appliances, electrical, and plumbing issues. The role involves responding to emergency service requests outside normal working hours and requires being on-call 24/7 for HVAC emergencies. The specialist will also assist in determining the need for major repairs and supervise contracted specialized services.

Requirements

  • US Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust IAW job requirement through the Customs & Border Protection Agency.
  • Four years of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties.
  • Work will be performed primarily in the outdoor environment.
  • Temps may be extremely cold during the winter.
  • May require occasional lifting or moving of items up to 25 lbs with additional assistance of equipment or support for heavy lifting needs for things like appliances when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform move-in and move-out inspections.
  • Complete and obtain signature for Occupancy Agreements.
  • Submit work orders to contractor major maintenance tasks.
  • Review and recommend approval for completed work.
  • Coordinate administrative/maintenance duties with the regional CBP housing program managers.
  • Respond to service requests submitted by CBP Housing occupants, initiate/coordinate correction action with the Government to identify and repair requirements during normal working hours.
  • Respond to emergency service requests submitted by CBP Housing occupants and callback response work requests immediately (within the shortest possible time consistent with the staff's location) during normal working hours and within two (2) hours when the work request is made outside normal working hours.
  • Remain on-site until the emergency has been secured and adequate temporary repairs have been made.
  • Work to get permanent repairs accomplished as soon as practicable.
  • Provide a written account of any emergency callbacks, to include costs incurred and a plan for permanent correction of the problem, to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) or designee the morning of the next working day.
  • Respond to urgent service requests within two (2) hours during normal working hours.
  • Respond to routine work requests and have a vendor complete the required work within forty-eight (48) hours of notification.
  • Notify the Government Lead with a written extension request if the forty-eight (48) hours period will be exceeded.
  • Performs HVAC preventative maintenance and upkeep.
  • Ensures that all HVAC units are working properly and efficiently.
  • Inspect electrical components of HVAC units.
  • Clean evaporative coil.
  • Clean condensing unit.
  • Check refrigerant pressures and adjust as needed.
  • Inspect the air distribution system and adjust as needed.
  • Balance airflow.
  • Clean air ducts.
  • Inspect and lubricate all moving parts.
  • Respond to emergency call and provide emergency repairs - On-call 24/7.
  • Schedule and replace all CBP Housing HVAC filters every 2 months or as needed.
  • Ensure furnaces are working, as well as generators, especially during cooler temperatures.
  • Perform general maintenance on smoke detectors and alarms.
  • Replace smoke alarm batteries yearly or as needed.
  • Replace smoke alarms yearly or as necessary.
  • Clean smoke alarms to ensure functionality yearly.
  • Troubleshoot and repair appliances (Refrigerators, Ranges, Washers, Dryers, Dishwasher, Food disposal, Hot water heaters).
  • Replace appliances as necessary.
  • Respond to electrical and plumbing emergencies.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repairs on minor plumbing issues.
  • Replace water faucets.
  • Unclog toilets, shower and sink drains.
  • Repair water leaks as necessary.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repairs on minor electrical issues (Light switches, Electrical outlets, Light fixtures and ceiling fans, Electrical breakers).
  • Provide minor mechanical and cosmetic repairs to CBP houses.
  • Install or replace door locks.
  • Repair or replace hardware.
  • Touch up paint as necessary.
  • Assist in determining the need for major repairs on housing units.
  • Make recommendations whether any major repairs are needed.
  • Supervise all contracted major repairs that require specialized services that include HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Submit inputs for a Monthly Status Report of work completed for the monthly period, management issues, status of ongoing activities, problems or delays and required coordination for invoice payments.
