About The Position

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Housing Projects Coordinator to support the implementation of affordable housing initiatives. This role involves project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and day-to-day support to advance housing developments and ensure projects proceed efficiently. The position contributes to the City's goals of expanding and preserving affordable housing options. The Housing & Neighborhood Services Department focuses on creating vibrant neighborhoods through Community Engagement, Code Enforcement, Housing Services, CharMeck311, and the Office of Youth Opportunities.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to track projects, monitor deadlines, and follow through on tasks in a timely manner
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information in a concise and understandable way
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and maintain professional working relationships
  • Basic understanding of affordable housing, construction processes, or regulatory compliance, or the ability to learn quickly
  • Experience or familiarity with data tracking, reporting, or information management systems
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, to organize and analyze information
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with seven years of relevant work experience, an associate degree with five years of relevant work experience, a bachelor’s degree with three year of relevant work experience, or a master’s degree with one year of relevant work experience, along with knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, construction management, real estate, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1–3 years of experience in project coordination, housing, construction, public administration, or a related field (internships included)
  • Experience supporting project tracking, documentation, or coordination across multiple stakeholders
  • Familiarity with affordable housing, community development, or public-sector programs is a plus
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of housing projects by working closely with internal staff, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders to help move projects forward in a timely manner while maintaining strong customer service.
  • Support equity and inclusion efforts by helping ensure housing developments are accessible and responsive to community needs.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and support efforts to stay updated on local, state, and federal affordable housing policies.
  • Support data management processes to facilitate data tracking, reporting, and informed decision-making.
  • Use tools such as Excel or project management systems to maintain accurate, accessible, and organized housing data.
  • Maintain project-related files and documentation, ensuring accuracy, organization, and compliance with record-keeping standards.
  • Support monitoring of construction progress through site visits, coordination with project partners, and documentation of project status.
  • Assist with construction oversight activities by tracking project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, and helping identify and escalate issues as needed.
  • Review and process invoices from contractors, suppliers, and service providers, ensuring accuracy and timely payment; maintain supporting documentation related to project expenses and basic budget tracking.
  • Prepare routine reports, summaries, and updates related to project status, data tracking, and program activities.
  • Provide support to internal and external stakeholders, including responding to inquiries and assisting partners such as developers, community organizations, and other agencies.
  • Coordinate environmental review processes by tracking requirements, facilitating documentation, and working with internal staff and external partners to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
