About The Position

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is seeking a Housing Intern for Fall 2026. The CBPP is a strategic policy institute focused on reducing poverty, promoting equity, and building opportunity through rigorous research and analysis. The Housing and Income Security team specifically works to advance economic justice, address inequities in housing access, and improve the well-being of low-income individuals by developing and promoting policies that increase access to quality, affordable housing. The intern will conduct in-depth analyses of research reports and program data, and assist with tasks such as attending and reporting on hearings, conferences, and meetings.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in housing policy, fair housing, or homelessness issues.
  • Strong research and written communication skills.
  • Facility with Microsoft Excel.
  • Current undergraduates, graduate students, or recent graduates.
  • Demonstrated interest in working on public policies that affect low-income and diverse communities and have implications for racial equity.
  • Must have documentation of work authorization for the U.S. AND a U.S. Social Security number, as of the start date of the internship, to be employed by CBPP.

Nice To Haves

  • Work or volunteer experience with housing and/or homelessness issues.
  • Familiarity with Stata, R, or another statistical software program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-depth analyses of research reports and program data on relevant policy issues.
  • Assist with a variety of other tasks, including attending and reporting on hearings, conferences, and meetings.

Benefits

  • Undergraduate students receive $18.00 per hour.
  • Students with a bachelor's degree receive $19.00 per hour.
  • Graduate students receive $20.00 per hour.
  • Students with a master’s or law degree receive $21.00 per hour.
  • Doctoral students may receive between $20.00 and $22.00 per hour, depending on progress toward completion of degree requirements, relevant coursework, and research.
