About The Position

Capitol Hall is a permanent supportive housing residence for formerly homeless adults. On-site services include case management, entitlement assistance, medical care, substance abuse counseling, work readiness training, a meals program, 24 hour/7 day per week front desk security, and daily group activities. The purpose of this position is to deliver light case management services using a strengths-based, client-centered approach to adults in a low income building so tenants can maintain permanent housing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Understanding of NYC housing systems and Subsidies
  • Experience with motivational interviewing techniques
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Team player
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to use or learn computer databases

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree Preferred
  • Experience working with homeless adults and Families preferred
  • Professional or academic exposure to mental illness, substance use, and/or homelessness

Responsibilities

  • Maintain case records with documentation of services provided and outcomes, according to specific program procedures.
  • Assist clients in receiving entitlements and in understanding and complying with building rules and government subsidies to maintain residency.
  • Assist with the collection of monthly rent payments from clients, and deliver rent to third party management company.
  • Assist with completing application packets with clients for section 8 rental subsidies, and one-shot deals.
  • Assist clients with re-certification of section 8 rental subsidies, and lease renewals.
  • Function as a primary liaison with RoCo’s management company.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with a diverse population with a wide array of needs and backgrounds.
  • Develop and facilitate client workshops and individual sessions on skills and information necessary to acquire and maintain independent permanent housing.
