About The Position

The Press Hotel, a historic property reborn in Portland, Maine, is seeking a Houseperson to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of public areas and guest rooms, ensuring a high standard of service for hotel guests. The Houseperson will be responsible for a variety of cleaning tasks, replenishing supplies, and supporting the overall housekeeping operations. This position requires flexibility in shifts, a professional demeanor, and the ability to handle physical demands. Requirements

  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with others
  • Must be proactive in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving issues as necessary
  • 1 year experience working in a housekeeping environment
  • Must be flexible to work all shifts including overnights, weekends and holidays
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism in all interactions/situations
  • Always maintain a warm and friendly demeanor
  • Reliable and have a sense of urgency
  • Must be able to lift and carry upwards to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming
  • Comply with Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations

Responsibilities

  • Cleans public areas, lounges, lobbies, bathrooms, and hallways
  • Vacuums and washes carpets and rugs
  • Empties wastepaper baskets and ashtrays
  • Transports trash to waste disposal equipment
  • Dusts and polishes wooden surfaces and furniture
  • Replenishes Housekeeping supplies in storage closets
  • Maintains the required property uniform and always ensures a professional appearance and attitude
  • Maintains courteous, efficient response always
  • Responds promptly to guest requests and service calls, delivering amenities, linens, towels, cribs, rollaway beds, and other requested items with professionalism and courtesy
  • Supports the Housekeeping team by collecting and distributing linens, removing trash and soiled linen, stocking housekeeping closets, and assisting Room Attendants as needed
  • Performs daily housekeeping service in occupied guest rooms and cleans vacant guest rooms as needed to support department operations and maintain service standards
