Housekeeping Technician, full time, evenings
About The Position
The Housekeeping Services Specialist works under the general supervision of the Housekeeping Services Group Leader. The role performs hard-surface and carpet cleaning procedures, wall washing, and upholstery cleaning; processes waste and linen; and performs other support functions as assigned. The position works 80 hours every two weeks, with a 3:30 p.m.–12:00 a.m. shift and a flexible start time if needed. Weekend work occurs every fifth weekend. Housekeeping staff help maintain a safe and clean hospital environment, including patient care areas, restrooms, offices, and isolation rooms. The work involves patient interaction and may include exposure to bodily fluids. Staff describe Environmental Services as a team-oriented workplace where employees help one another and managers provide time, assistance, and guidance as employees learn the pace of work. The work can be demanding and rewarding, with each day offering different tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform hard-surface floor care.
- Perform burnishing operations.
- Perform scrubbing and finish-removal operations.
- Apply floor finish.
- Perform carpet-care procedures and spot removal.
- Perform damp buffing, shampooing, and carpet extraction.
- Clean upholstery.
- Process waste and linen, including medical waste, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Transport general waste from collection points to the compactor.
- Transport medical waste from collection points to the storage room.
- Transport clean and soiled linen in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Perform support functions as needed.
- Prepare the conference center for meetings.
- Clean up spills.
- Wash walls and clean windows.
