Environmental Services (EVS) plays a critical role across the Duke University Medical Complex, supporting Duke University Hospital (DUH), the School of Medicine (SOM), and the School of Nursing (SON). Our teams work behind the scenes- often on the front lines to ensure patient care environments are safe, clean, and welcoming for patients, visitors, students, faculty, and staff. Environmental Services (EVS) is essential to Duke's mission of advancing health through excellence in patient care, education, and research. Every role in EVS contributes to quality outcomes and helps our clinical care teams focus on what matters most—our patients. Our work directly impacts patient safety and infection prevention, healing environments and the overall patient experience, and operational readiness of clinical, academic, and research spaces.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- The work requires the ability to read, comprehend, and follow both oral and written instructions.
- At least one year of general housekeeping experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining patient care areas through high-quality cleaning, disinfection, and room turnover in accordance with hospital standards.
- Specializes in comprehensive floor care services, including stripping, waxing, scrubbing, brushing, and maintaining both hard and soft floor surfaces across the medical complex.
