About The Position

PCSI is looking for a Housekeeping Manager to lead daily operations for the Environmental Services (EVS) department at Augusta Military Medical Center on Fort Belvoir. In this role, you will plan and oversee the work of the EVS team while managing the hiring, training, and performance of supervisors and frontline staff. As an EVS subject matter expert, you will also provide technical guidance and support to strengthen team capabilities. The Housekeeping Manager evaluates daily and weekly staffing needs, monitors productivity, and ensures all work meets quality standards and contract requirements. This position also serves as a key partner to the Executive Housekeeper, helping address customer concerns promptly and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with the client. Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 4:00pm-1:00am, with occasional weekend flexibility required as needed. We're looking for a supportive leader who excels at taking ownership of daily operations and brings strong EVS knowledge to the team. CHESP certification is preferred, but we’re committed to supporting employees who want to earn a CHESP by covering training and exam fees.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisor or management experience in healthcare environmental services required.
  • Experience must include training, quality improvement techniques, interviewing and selection, cleaning schedule management, budget management, and communicating with hospital management/staff.
  • Knowledge of PC functions and software, Microsoft Office, and bed tracking systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and direct multiple work assignments with strong understanding of people leadership.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping industry best practices, chemicals and supplies.
  • Thorough knowledge in the use of vacuums, buffers, and other housekeeping equipment.
  • Knowledge of record keeping, report writing, and supply and inventory practices.
  • Customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, co-workers, hospital staff and government officials.
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and report on the work of assigned staff.
  • Ability and willingness to exert disciplinary action as needed.
  • Ability to effectively read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screening.
  • Ability to be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors. Subject to hazards associated with working in a health care environment that may cause personal harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
  • May be required to work in aseptic areas and be exposed to various chemicals and infectious disease.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, use hands to handle, and occasionally move about the facilities; may lift up to 60lbs, prolonged standing and walking greater than 50 percent of the time
  • Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and maintain good driving record.
  • If required, ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or in business management, preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) or Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) preferred.
  • Experience in a large hospital setting of comparable size and scope preferred.
  • Experience in an environment that includes workers with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, plans, and directs operations of EVS department by assigning work to direct reports.
  • Attain the objectives of the housekeeping department in accordance with company standards and contractual requirements and as directed by the Executive Housekeeper/ Project Manager.
  • Schedule and delegate daily work assignments for EVS staff and supervisors;, monitor productivity, and inspect work to assure work conformance to contract specifications.
  • Conduct productivity rate studies to ensure the most efficient and effective use of personnel and the greatest productivity output.
  • Oversee supervision of staff, including hiring, developing, counseling, training, and termination. This supervision is subject to the procedures established by the company and is subject to the terms and conditions of any collective bargaining agreement in place at the site.
  • Provide leadership to supervisors and EVS staff, fostering exceptional customer service skills and methods to exceed customer satisfaction.
  • Motivate staff to improve performance and encourage further development and build professionalism in the EVS industry.
  • Provide technical support to supervisors and EVS staff. Make presentations to EVS staff.
  • Communicate official plans, policies, procedures, changes as needed.
  • Develop and maintain an effective customer relationship through assigned contacts.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints raised by the client utilizing corporate procedures, including reporting issues with major client considerations to management in a timely manner.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and delivery of the highest quality service possible for customers.
  • Support the Executive Housekeeper in resolving customer and performance concerns.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed in all assignments and safety training occurs as prescribed by the contract.
  • Report all on-the-job injuries immediately through use of the appropriate worker’s compensation procedures.
  • Oversee and hold accountability for the proper maintenance and security of assigned equipment. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, floor buffer, carpet vacuum and cleaner(s), auto-floor scrubber (if applicable), wet vacuum, and other related custodial equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of housekeeping equipment.
  • Request repairs or service as necessary.
  • Initiate order for housekeeping supplies and equipment.
