The Housekeeping/Laundry Aide reports to the Environmental Services Manager and is expected to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the home by cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings in assigned work areas following established policies and procedures. You are expected to sort, wash, dry and fold linen and personal clothing and deliver laundry and personal clothing in accordance with established policies and procedures. A major part of your role will be to actively involve residents in everyday domestic living, creating meaningful activities.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of washer and dryer operations and equipment used in cleaning. Some knowledge of chemicals used in the process.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work from the heart and make others smile.
  • Ability to make the most of the time you have to provide positive social interactions.
  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months.
  • TB test results less than 6 months old.
  • Must be able to provide three supervisory references
  • Proof of seasonal Flu shot or Tamiflu prescription provided by a Doctor.

Responsibilities

  • Receives assignment, assembles required materials and supplies, and loads service cart and transports to the work area.
  • Using specified cleaning/disinfecting/sanitizing agents and following specific procedures, work patterns and routines, performs tasks such as: vacuuming, sweeping, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, sanitizing/disinfection floors, spot cleaning walls, windows and doors between washing, dusting, washing, sanitizing/disinfecting furniture, shelves, woodwork, etc., emptying waste baskets and rearranging furniture, removing waste, daily cleaning and disinfecting all bathroom fixtures and replenishing supplies, cleaning floors, fixtures and furnishings in utility rooms, kitchen closets, etc.
  • Ensures privacy of residents during performance of duties.
  • Respects privacy, dignity and promotes confidentiality within a warm, homely setting.
  • Prepares room for new occupant following prescribed procedures.
  • Notifies ESM when supplies are low or equipment is malfunctioning.
  • Returns unused supplies and cleans and stores equipment.
  • Identifies potential liability issues and takes action to minimize risk.
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned.
  • Receives laundry and sorts according to type, condition and weight. Follows specific instructions for the treatment of soiled linens. Separates loads according to classification.
  • Washes and dries laundry following instructions for machine operations, designated washing and drying times, etc. Sorts personal clothing or puts aside for repairs or ironing. Folds laundry as required, and sorts and delivers to appropriate units.
  • Observes the operation of machines and reports malfunctions to the Supervisor. Assists in maintaining laundry facilities, equipment and supplies. Cleans machines as required and cleans and tidies floors and laundry areas.
  • Adheres to established department policies, procedures and objectives regarding quality management, safety, environment and infection control.
  • Focuses on a person-centred approach while maintaining the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated in the Job Task Inventory.
