About The Position

The Housekeeper/Laundry Aide is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents, staff, and visitors in a senior living setting. This role ensures that resident rooms, common areas, and facility workspaces are cleaned regularly and meet facility and regulatory standards, contributing to the overall comfort and quality of life for residents. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a criminal clearance, and a recent physical examination confirming fitness for duty and absence of health hazards. The Housekeeper must be able to follow cleaning schedules, infection control, and safety procedures, handle cleaning chemicals and equipment safely, maintain confidentiality, and work independently or as part of a team. Basic First Aid certification is preferred. Essential physical abilities include lifting up to 30 lbs., bending, stooping, standing for long periods, operating cleaning equipment, and effective communication with residents, staff, and supervisors. A TB test and health screening are required within 7 days of employment.

Requirements

  • At least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Criminal clearance prior to presence in the facility
  • High school diploma or equivalent (or demonstrated ability to perform required tasks)
  • Passed a physical and have a chest x-ray (or an intradermal test) performed by a physician within the prior six months of employment, indicating physical qualification and no health hazards
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions related to cleaning schedules, infection control, and safety
  • Knowledge of safe handling and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate compassion and respect for elderly residents
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good character and continuing reputation of reliability and personal integrity
  • Physical ability to perform housekeeping tasks, including lifting up to 30 lbs., bending, stooping, standing for long periods, and operating cleaning equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, and supervisors
  • TB test clearance within 7 days of employment
  • Health screening completed within 7 days of employment
  • Ability to use standard cleaning equipment
  • Must be mobile
  • Good physical health verified by a health screening, including a chest x-ray or an intradermal test not more than six (6) months prior or seven (7) days after
  • Displays sincere compassion towards older adults
  • Demonstrates genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older people and their families

Nice To Haves

  • Basic First Aid certification
  • Experience in housekeeping or janitorial services, preferably in a healthcare or senior living setting
  • Prior housekeeping experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, and common areas according to facility protocols.
  • Change bed linens and make beds in resident rooms.
  • Dust, vacuum, mop floors, and empty trash receptacles throughout the facility.
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly to support infection control practices.
  • Ensure hallways and walkways remain free of clutter and tripping hazards.
  • Follow all safety and infection control procedures, including proper use of PPE.
  • Handle resident belongings with care and report any lost or damaged items.
  • Replenish restroom supplies and housekeeping materials as needed.
  • Report any maintenance concerns or safety hazards to the Housekeeping Supervisor or Maintenance Director.
  • Assist with deep cleaning tasks as scheduled or required.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to support resident move-ins and discharges.
  • Follow privacy and dignity guidelines when entering resident rooms.
  • Maintain housekeeping supply areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Attend in-service training and staff meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Housekeeping Supervisor or Maintenance Director.
