About The Position

This role is responsible for the overall cleanliness and upkeep of Hamilton Booth Centre's buildings/facilities, to ensure that services are delivered in the environment that meets Health & Safety Standards. The role contributes to the broader mission and values of The Salvation Army, upholding standards of service that reflect its spiritual and social commitment to the community.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 is a minimum requirement.
  • Three months of related experience is a minimum requirement.
  • General familiarity with cleaning procedures in an organizational setting.
  • An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and address minor cleaning and maintenance issues independently and determine when to refer matters to a supervisor.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Disciplined and adaptable, with a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and deep cleaning of resident rooms, offices, common areas, washrooms, hallways, kitchens, laundry rooms, and multi-purpose spaces to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors and carpets; dust and clean windows, walls, baseboards, light fixtures, and furniture.
  • Sanitize high-touch surfaces and restrooms regularly, including toilets, sinks, showers, and fixtures, following infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Change and launder linens and bedding; sort, wash, dry, fold, and store resident and facility laundry, following universal precautions.
  • Restock washroom and cleaning supplies; ensure storage areas and housekeeping carts are clean, tidy, and well-organized.
  • Prepare rooms for new residents, including detailed cleaning of appliances, furnishings, and surfaces, and replacing linens and kitchenware as required.
  • Remove and properly dispose of garbage and recycling from all designated areas, maintaining a clean and odor-free environment.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and pest control concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance team.
  • Support cleanliness and upkeep of outdoor areas, including sweeping walkways, salting in winter, watering plants, and collecting litter.
  • Assist in furniture moving and room setups for meetings or events, following direction from supervisors or program needs.
  • Adhere to established health and safety regulations, including WHMIS and infection control procedures, using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of laundry machines and housekeeping equipment; report repair needs and perform basic equipment care.
  • Participate in regular unit and facility inspections, including wellness checks, pest monitoring, and occupancy turnover cleaning.
  • Maintain accurate housekeeping logs and communication records; participate in staff meetings and ongoing training as required.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
