About The Position

Cleans resident apartments and rooms, baths, offices, halls, and other areas by performing the following duties. This role involves respecting and maintaining residents’ rights and confidentiality, greeting customers appropriately, and being courteous, kind, and thoughtful. The housekeeper is expected to find ways to improve the lives of residents, work collaboratively with colleagues, and be a solution-oriented individual. A key aspect of the role is taking pride in one's work and displaying good cleaning skills, including keeping utility and storage rooms clean, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning rugs and carpets, dusting furniture, polishing metalwork, washing walls and windows, emptying wastebaskets, making beds for residents needing assistance, putting away clean laundry, and keeping common areas clean and organized. The position also requires using correct cleaning solutions and tools, being careful with fragile items, and participating in seasonal cleanings. Consistency and reliability are crucial, requiring the establishment of a track record of quality work, following through on assignments, and completing an assigned workload, typically 4-6 apartments per day. The role may also involve assisting in the laundry department if the Laundry Aide is absent. Safety awareness and follow-through are paramount, including being concerned with safety, following safety protocols to prevent self-injury, and ensuring residents' safety by identifying hazards like cords, tools, wet floors, or other fall risks. Maintaining a hygienic living space for residents and adhering to safety regulations, infection control, and universal precaution procedures are essential. The employee must use gloves when handling cleaning products and cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, and report unsafe or unsanitary conditions. Attendance is critical, requiring punctuality, following call-out procedures, using accrued time appropriately, attending annual in-services and quarterly team meetings, and demonstrating flexibility in covering shifts or picking up extra work.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
  • Ability to relate well to all geriatric residents, including the emotionally upset.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors and the general public.
  • Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Keep utility and storage rooms in clean and orderly condition.
  • Sweep and mop floors.
  • Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and draperies.
  • Dust furniture and equipment.
  • Polish metalwork.
  • Wash walls, ceilings and woodwork.
  • Wash windows, door panels and sills.
  • Empty wastebaskets & transports trash to disposal area.
  • Make beds for residents needing assistance.
  • Put away clean laundry.
  • Keep common areas clean and organized.
  • Use the correct cleaning solutions for each job.
  • Use the tools of the job correctly.
  • Be careful with fragile items and do not have excessive breakage.
  • Participate in Spring and Fall cleanings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Complete your assigned workload (typically 4-6 apartments per day).
  • Become familiar with ALU Laundry and commercial machines to work in the event that the Laundry Aide is absent.
  • Be concerned with safety.
  • Follow safety protocol to reduce the chance of self-injury.
  • Work hard to keep residents safe by staying aware of cords, tools, (vacuums, brooms, etc.) wet floors or other hazards that could increase the chance of a resident falling.
  • Work hard to make the living space of a resident hygienic and clean.
  • Follow safety regulations, infection control, and universal precaution procedures at all times.
  • Be concerned about germs.
  • Uses gloves when working with cleaning products and when cleaning bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Report unsafe or unsanitary conditions to your supervisor.
  • Come to work on time.
  • Follow the appropriate call out procedure if unable to be at work.
  • Use accrued time appropriately without excessive call-outs.
  • Attend 10 in-services annually.
  • Attend quarterly team meetings.
  • Be flexible in filling in for others or picking up extra work.
