About The Position

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented housekeeper to maintain cleanliness, organization, and overall upkeep of a historical site. The ideal candidate will take pride in their work, demonstrate discretion and professionalism, and ensure the residence is consistently clean, sanitary, and welcoming.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of professional experience relevant to the position.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship, and Immigration Services regulations.
  • Must establish Veteran's Preference through the Department of Military and Veteran's Affairs if applying for Veteran's Preference.
  • All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011, have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act”.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general cleaning duties across the site in both the private and public areas of a historic site, including dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and polishing.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and common areas, maintaining all cleaning equipment in proper working condition.
  • Empty trash and dispose of waste properly.
  • Replenish household supplies (toiletries, cleaning products, etc.) promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment the private areas of the historic site, including washing, drying, ironing or steaming clothing, and coordinating any required dry-cleaning with kitchen staff.
  • Support kitchen staff during sit-down dinners, meetings, receptions, and other events beyond the normal tour of duty, including evenings and weekends.
  • Follow established cleaning schedules and special instructions to ensure the site is consistently ready for public tours, visits and events.
  • During events, ensure that high-traffic areas are pristine and restrooms are serviced regularly, assist with setup, food placement, serving meals and beverages, and clearing items as needed.
  • At the conclusion of events, clean public areas and restrooms thoroughly.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, or standing for extended periods, work independently while managing time efficiently.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, flexibility, and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality at all times.
