About The Position

A private individual in Stamford, CT, is seeking a full-time, live-out cook and housekeeper to replace a retiring employee of 20 years. The role involves preparing lunch and dinner, menu planning, grocery shopping, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and related areas. The schedule is Thursday through Monday, 11 am to 8 pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break. Workload varies seasonally, with lighter periods in January and March, and busier periods during the summer when extended family visits. The candidate will work alongside another full-time housekeeper, with responsibilities focused primarily on food preparation and kitchen upkeep. The position does not involve responsibilities at the client's secondary property in the city.

Responsibilities

  • Shopping, cooking, and cleaning for lunch and dinner
  • Menu planning for lunch and dinner
  • Stock control and inventory of daily foods and pantry staples
  • Regularly cleaning out the refrigerator and freezer, and discarding out-of-date and spoiled products
  • Kitchen, Breakfast Room, Dining Room, and Dining Porches upkeep
  • Assisting with dinner parties, including polishing silverware
  • Wiping outside kitchen/pantry cabinets
  • Cleaning inside and outside of cabinets
  • Deep cleaning stoves, hoods, vents, and controls
  • Making beds, tidying dressing rooms, light cleaning of bathrooms, and emptying garbage from these rooms on Saturdays/Sundays or when the other housekeeper is out
  • Light cleaning of downstairs bathroom and, in the summer, the pool house bathroom on Saturdays/Sundays or when the other housekeeper is out
  • Performing a walk-through of the house to ensure things are straightened and tidied on Saturdays/Sundays or when the other housekeeper is out
  • Polishing sliding doors leading to the dining porch
  • Cleaning the dishwasher filter
  • Checking refrigerator and freezer for expired and moldy food
  • Wiping all refrigerator and freezer shelves
  • Cleaning the stove backsplash and surface of the stove hood and controls
  • Ensuring soap dispensers and paper towel holders in the kitchen are full
  • Ensuring all salt and pepper shakers are full
  • Submitting receipts for grocery and household needs
  • Working with Susan on the weekly order from the family farm when in season
  • Working with the other housekeeper on flowers and plant care
  • Ensuring coffee beans and clean water are in the coffee machine daily
  • Ensuring water bottles and the water pitcher are full
  • Ensuring daily breakfast essentials (OJ, Yogurt, milk, fruit) are available
  • Wiping spills from drawers, refrigerator, and freezer
  • Wiping and mopping the kitchen floor after dinner
  • Wiping all kitchen surfaces after dinner
  • Wiping down the stove and venting after dinner
  • Running the dishwasher every night, and washing items by hand if a full load is not generated
  • Emptying all garbage cans in the kitchen before leaving
