About The Position

We are a warm, active family in Northern Virginia seeking a part-time Household Manager & Family Assistant to help maintain our organized and supportive home environment. Both parents work remotely and travel regularly, making our home a busy hub. We value a thoughtfully maintained home where everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, allowing us to spend more quality time together. This role requires a proactive, organized, and dependable individual who can manage household tasks quietly and confidently to minimize disruption to the parents' remote work. Warmth, engagement, and patience are essential when interacting with our elementary-aged son. Key responsibilities include supporting simple, healthy meal preparation, maintaining household organization, managing laundry, running errands, and overseeing vendors. A creative touch in organizing spaces, preparing meals, or enhancing the home's welcoming atmosphere is a plus.

Requirements

  • Ability to oversee vendors and coordinate repairs.
  • Familiarity with household calendars (e.g., Skylight calendars) is a plus.
  • Experience with receipt and budget tracking for household expenses.
  • Must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Wash, fold, and organize family laundry and linens, including special garment care, steaming, and ironing.
  • Manage regular linen rotation and maintain tidy, well-stocked laundry areas.
  • Create and maintain household organization systems, including daily resets and preparing the home for cleaners.
  • Perform light tidying such as dishes, surfaces, and vacuuming/sweeping high-traffic areas.
  • Assist with seasonal swaps (clothing, décor, bedding), prepare and coordinate donation drop-offs, and assist with event, holiday, and guest preparation.
  • Assist with packing/unpacking for travel and perform indoor plant care.
  • Change batteries, light bulbs, and smoke detectors as needed.
  • Plan and prep healthy, ready-to-eat family dinners and snacks for the child (batch cooking 1-2 times/week).
  • Prep school lunches approximately 2 times/week.
  • Perform grocery shopping as needed, adhering to dietary needs and preferences (healthy, low-sodium, low-fat, strawberry allergy).
  • Maintain kitchen clean-up and maintenance.
  • Handle school and sports practice pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • Provide light supervision and back-up childcare for the elementary-aged child.
  • Offer flexibility for date night coverage 1-2 times per month.
  • Prep backpacks and snacks for the child.
  • Assist with kid-related errands as needed.
  • Assist with restocking pantry, fridge, and household supplies.
  • Manage running household supply lists and assist with household orders and subscriptions (Amazon/Costco/Target).
  • Assist with routine errands such as returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping, and post office visits.
  • Handle mail and package processing, including breaking down boxes.
  • Oversee cleaners, contractors, landscapers, and other vendors.
  • Research and coordinate repairs and quotes, and oversee seasonal property maintenance and outdoor spaces.
  • Manage larger organizational projects such as toys, gear, closets, and pantries.
  • Provide occasional help with clothing resale (Poshmark) and occasional deep cleans (fridge, oven, baseboards, coffee maker).
  • Refresh high-traffic zones like the garage, mudroom, and entryway.
  • Clean humidifiers seasonally.
  • Maintain awareness of the family calendar, including household schedules (familiarity with Skylight calendars is a plus).
  • Track receipts and budget for expenses incurred as house manager.
  • Assist with event coordination as needed (holiday prep).
