About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Part Time House Support Worker to provide a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors. This role involves monitoring clients, maintaining documentation, providing laundry services, cleaning, basic maintenance, coordinating resident programming, performing intake and discharge procedures, intervening in crisis situations, distributing funds, developing interpersonal relationships, liaising with external agencies, and orienting new staff. The position operates under an averaging agreement and requires availability on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, plus 8 statutory holidays per year.

Requirements

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • High School Completion
  • Social services Diploma or related Diploma or Degree
  • Minimum one year Experience in frontline social service work
  • Performance of the job requires keyboarding/Manual record keeping, and lifting/packing clients/residents property/personal effects and engaging in recreational activities.
  • Performance of the job requires attentive listening and observation of body language, continuously monitoring the environment, multitasking and reading.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, to meet deadlines and cope with stressful situations.
  • Must be able to list a minimum of 40lbs

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the environment and clients/residents to ensure safety and security; completes regular client/resident status checks and room searches as required
  • Maintains and updates all appropriate documentation (including in-out and incident log books) related to clients/residents and initiates any new documentation
  • Provides laundry service for the shelters and shelter clients
  • Cleans shelter rooms, washrooms, kitchen, lounge and common areas and performs basic building maintenance
  • Complete all reports required by the funder and The Salvation Army
  • Coordinates and facilitates resident programming as required
  • Performs intake and discharge procedures for clients/residents as assigned
  • Monitors appropriate behavior; intervenes in crisis situations, provides emotional support and advocacy as required
  • Distributes funds to residents in accordance with established policies guidelines
  • Engages in the development of inter-personal relationships that promote dignity and respect
  • Liaises with Police, funders, court personnel, community agencies, families, and other staff members
  • Provides orientation to newly hired staff, volunteers, students
  • Attends 4 mandatory in-person staff meetings a year
  • Performs other duties as assigned
