The House Supervisor is responsible for participating, observing, and acting as a resource to staff for patient-related clinical and service problems. This role collaborates with physicians to ensure optimal patient care and resource utilization, and supports staff in problem-solving unit and patient service issues. The House Supervisor also acts as a patient advocate, responds to patient and visitor concerns, and initiates investigations into patient incidents and medication errors, ensuring proper documentation and corrective action plans. They serve as a liaison to ensure processes are in place for optimal patient care, collaborating with nurse managers, department managers, medical staff, and hospital administration. This role identifies trends in system problems and notifies the unit manager, and assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. The House Supervisor obtains patient reports, evaluates patient status, and reassigns staff as needed. They complete databases, process initial key MD orders, and respond to public relations issues, maintaining guest relations and alerting appropriate personnel to potential patient/hospital situations. Additionally, they ensure compliance with regulatory agency standards and requirements, and may intervene in the absence of the Safety Officer or Patient Safety Officer during life- or health-threatening conditions. The role involves various patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling with proper technique, and must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care needs.
