Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Current and unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional nursing experience, specifically within a psychiatric or behavioral health environment.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a formal supervisory or clinical leadership role (e.g., Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager).
  • Mandatory experience in managing an inpatient psychiatric unit within a hospital setting.
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Proficiency in Crisis Management protocols (such as PMCS or TRUST).

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a related graduate degree in Healthcare Administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) models and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) within an integrated healthcare setting.
  • Technical mastery of electronic medical records (EMR) and hospital billing systems relevant to the New York healthcare market.
  • Prior experience working with pediatric populations (ages 6 weeks to 6 years) within a clinical or developmental context.
  • Exceptional pedagogical skills for the mentorship of junior nursing staff and the implementation of continuing education programs.

Responsibilities

  • Directing unit-wide operations in close partnership with the Departmental Director, maintaining 24-hour responsibility for the delivery of psychiatric care and nursing services.
  • Implementing and enforcing institutional policies alongside strict compliance with codes from the NY Department of Health, the Office of Mental Health, and the Administration for Children’s Services.
  • Supervising a diverse, interdisciplinary team of clinicians and support staff to foster a culture of professional respect, clinical competence, and therapeutic efficacy.
  • Managing performance improvement initiatives by utilizing industry benchmarks and synthesizing complex clinical data for state and city regulatory reporting.
  • Overseeing the full patient lifecycle, from intake and acute clinical management to discharge planning, ensuring that all interventions meet ethical and nursing philosophy standards.
  • Administering unit budgets, procurement, and inventory maintenance while driving HCAHPS scores through superior patient and family engagement strategies.
