About The Position

The House Supervisor, a Registered Nurse (RN), is a key member of the nursing leadership team and plays a critical role in overseeing hospital operations on a shift-by-shift basis. This role is responsible for supervising nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, coordinating patient admissions and transfers, and serving as a liaison among departments under the direction of the Manager. The House Supervisor demonstrates strong clinical expertise, effective leadership, and the ability to perform decisively in high-pressure situations. This role ensures adherence to hospital policies and procedures, supports accurate patient care documentation, and promotes a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri or hold a compact license.
  • Minimum of three to five years of clinical nursing experience; previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications; TNCC and ESI certification are required but may be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibit strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, protocols, and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee nursing and clinical staffing to ensure adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to optimize patient flow and effective bed management.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Facilitate effective communication among providers, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary departments to support high-quality patient care.
  • Respond to emergencies and urgent issues by initiating appropriate actions and coordinating with required personnel.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with staffing, scheduling, and on-call rotations to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts.
  • Notify the Manager and/or Administrator on Call (AOC) of situations that have or may have a significant impact on patient care, staffing, or hospital operations.
  • Function in the Medical/Surgical and/or Emergency Department (ED) as a RN when staffing levels require.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
