About The Position

L'Arche Toronto operates five homes in East Toronto where individuals with and without disabilities live together. Additionally, they offer three programs for adults with disabilities: Sol Express, Trying It On For Size (TIFS), and an internal Daytime Program. The main administrative office, the Gathering Place, is located in East York. River House is situated at River St. and Dundas St. E. The hours for the House Assistant role are determined by the needs of the home and scheduled in advance by the House Leader/Manager. Flexibility is required, as you may be asked to switch homes or schedules with notice if a community need arises.

Requirements

  • Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage the stress of multi-faceted responsibilities and management.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and clear in times of crisis.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through on commitments in a timely fashion.

Nice To Haves

  • Educational background in Developmental Services (DSW), Personal Support Worker (PSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), or Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
  • 2+ years of experience in the Developmental Services Sector.
  • A valid G driver’s license with 3 or more years of driving experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support the physical, psychological, spiritual, and health and safety needs of core members in collaboration with other team members.
  • Follow behavioral protocols, Behavioural Support Plans (BSPs), Individual Support Plans (ISPs), and PRN protocols.
  • Respectfully support core members with their daily living skills and personal hygiene.
  • Administer medication as prescribed by a physician, adhering to community practices.
  • Accompany core members to appointments and activities outside the home.
  • Encourage core members to achieve maximum independence in personal care and relationships.
  • Assist core members in developing skills as agreed upon during annual reviews/goal setting.
  • Participate in daily housekeeping chores, including cleaning, shopping, cooking, driving, laundry, minor repairs, and vehicle maintenance, to ensure the home is safe, clean, well-managed, and welcoming.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with team members, being open to feedback and willing to resolve conflicts according to community processes.
  • Support and respect the schedule, priorities, routines, and traditions of the home as outlined by the House Manager.
  • Attend community, regional, or national events and/or trainings as required.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including medical forms, daily journals, and reporting forms, in a timely and competent manner.
  • Foster good stewardship and appropriate use of the home's and community's resources and property.
  • Maintain up-to-date training requirements as requested by the HR department.
  • Understand and adhere to all L'Arche community standards, policies, and procedures.
