About The Position

The Hotel Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel's overall appearance, safety, functionality, and operational efficiency. This position ensures that all guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems are properly maintained and meet hotel brand standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (6-8 hours a day).
  • Occasional standing and walking throughout the workday.
  • Frequent fine motor skills, use of hands and fingers for keyboarding/typing, utilizing a mouse or trackpad, writing, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, reach, or carry items.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 10–25 pounds as needed (e.g., files, office supplies).
  • Visual ability to read from a computer screen and printed materials including close visual focus for extended periods and color differentiation (for certain roles).
  • Ability to hear and participate in conversations and meetings, use phone and/or headset.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to guest room maintenance requests.
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning lights, outlets, televisions, toilets, faucets, and other room equipment.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot air conditioning and heating units.
  • Repair door locks, hinges, handles, and other room fixtures.
  • Ensure all maintenance issues are resolved before rooms are returned to service.
  • Complete daily preventative maintenance assignments.
  • Inspect guest rooms for plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general maintenance concerns.
  • Clean and replace HVAC filters as scheduled.
  • Inspect appliances, furniture, fixtures, and equipment for damage.
  • Document completed preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect and maintain the lobby, hallways, elevators, stairwells, restrooms, and other common areas.
  • Replace burned-out light bulbs and repair damaged fixtures.
  • Maintain doors, walls, ceilings, flooring, and other building surfaces.
  • Perform minor painting, drywall repairs, and general upkeep.
  • Ensure exterior areas, entrances, and parking areas are maintained.
  • Monitor HVAC equipment, water heaters, pumps, and other mechanical systems.
  • Check for leaks, unusual noises, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs within authorized qualifications.
  • Report major mechanical issues to management immediately.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors when necessary.
  • Conduct daily inspections for potential safety hazards.
  • Ensure emergency exits and pathways remain clear.
  • Report fire safety, electrical, plumbing, and structural concerns.
  • Follow all hotel safety procedures and maintenance regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance workspace.
  • Review and prioritize maintenance requests at the beginning of each shift.
  • Respond promptly to requests from the Front Desk, Housekeeping, and Management.
  • Update management on unresolved maintenance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed repairs and pending work orders.
  • Communicate guest room maintenance issues that may affect room availability.
  • Monitor maintenance supplies, tools, and replacement parts.
  • Notify management when supplies need to be reordered.
  • Properly store and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Minimize unnecessary waste and maintenance expenses.
  • Complete assigned maintenance work orders in a timely manner.
  • Prioritize guest-related maintenance concerns.
  • Perform daily property inspections.
  • Maintain guest rooms and public areas according to hotel brand standards.
  • Communicate outstanding repairs to management before leaving.
  • Keep the maintenance shop clean and organized.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with guests and team members.
  • Assist other departments with maintenance-related needs when necessary.
  • Assist with emergency maintenance situations, special projects, property inspections, and other duties assigned by the General Manager.
