About The Position

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking DMU Engineers in Austin, TX to join our team. This role involves the safe and efficient operation of a passenger train, maintaining necessary qualifications, interacting with passengers, and responding to en route instructions and deficiencies. The position requires adherence to all company policies, safety procedures, and a commitment to Herzog's culture and values. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Being a current Federal Railroad Administration Certified Locomotive Engineer is requirement.
Must be able to operate passenger train equipment in compliance with Federal and State regulations, General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), Air Brake & Train Handling Rules, Timetables and Special Instructions, and Safety Rules.
Three years of safe, increasingly responsible railroad experience as a certified locomotive engineer; experience in passenger rail operations is preferable, but not required.
Must not have had any railroad operating rule violations or any positive drug and alcohol test results within the past five years.
Must be capable of communicating clearly and effectively with others.
Initiates and responds to oral and written communication.
Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Responsibilities

Safe and efficient operation of a passenger train.
Maintain qualifications as required by Federal regulation and company policy.
Interact with passengers and make on-board announcements.
Receives and complies with en route instructions from Dispatch Center.
Reports to the proper authority any and all deficiencies and safety concerns encountered on the rail corridor.
Reports mechanical malfunctions and coordinates with the mechanical department to correct mechanical or safety problems identified on equipment.
Prepares reports as required.
Follows all other instructions from Company Officers.
Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
Other duties as assigned.
