About The Position

The Host/Hostess PRN position is responsible for serving patient meals, assisting with setup, and preparing snacks accurately and timely according to procedures. This role involves returning to patient rooms to pick up dirty trays and confirm patient satisfaction, while strictly adhering to hand hygiene, patient identification, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. The Host/Hostess will utilize basic diet therapy training to help patients select appropriate menu items and maintain food safety standards according to HACCP and department guidelines. Additionally, they will ensure a clean and orderly work area, monitor and deliver floor stock to designated units following FIFO principles, check for expired products, and log refrigerator/freezer temperatures. Excellent customer service skills are essential, particularly in resolving complaints, concerns, and questions. This role also includes performing other duties as assigned by a supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred.
  • 6 Months experience in a food service position or applicable customer service experience required.
  • FHC - Food Handlers Certificate 30 Days required.
  • Reading, basic math, written language in English.
  • Cooperative, discreet, and courteous in handling customers.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Positive customer service attributes.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment while maintaining focus and quality service.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of food service experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve patient meals, assist with set up and prepare snacks accurately and timely according to procedures.
  • Return to the patient room within a reasonable period of time to pick up dirty tray and to confirm satisfaction with the patient.
  • Comply with hand hygiene, patient identification, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Utilize basic diet therapy training to assist patients in selecting correct menu items as needed.
  • Maintain food safety requirements according to HACCP and department standards in the performance of all duties.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area, ensuring compliance with health department and facility requirements.
  • Monitor, prepare, and deliver floor stock to designated units according to FIFO and check for expired product and/or prohibited food items.
  • Check and log refrigerator/freezer temperatures on the nursing units.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills at point of service and in resolution of complaints/concerns/ questions.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
