About The Position

Ensures physician’s diet orders are met by maintaining current and accurate patient card files and following specific standards for diet compliance. This role involves processing diet orders, communicating effectively with patients and staff, utilizing CBORD computer systems, and participating in training and meetings. The Host/Hostess also provides high-quality patient service in distributing patient trays and nourishments, including cart and tray delivery/pick-up and delivery of nourishments. Other duties include upholding the hospital's service commitment, maintaining a professional image, documenting patient intakes and calorie counts, and performing miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 6 months to 1 year experience in hospitality industry or customer service experience preferable.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently.
  • Basic Computer skills (ie data entry).
  • Math skills: conversions of oz, cc, ml.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Processing Diet Orders: Follows physician’s diet orders for all patients, updates and maintains accurate patient card files in automated diet office, adheres to specific standards for diets when entering selections into computer or in modifying and checking menus, and updates and maintains nourishment orders to ensure diet orders are met. Utilizes CBORD and Care Connection to achieve meal selection, process diet orders and changes.
  • Communication: Assists patients with room service when appropriate for all assigned patients/units, communicates effectively when assisting patients and/or family with menu selections, communicates between nursing, room service operators and kitchen staff in order to clarify orders and provide prompt service, and communicates special patient needs to dietitians.
  • CBORD (computer) use: Seeks new training/knowledge of CBORD, utilizes manuals and technical support, and can perform all host/hostess positions accurately.
  • Training/Inservices/Meetings: Assists with training of other employees and attends scheduled inservices and meetings.
  • Cart and Tray Delivery and Pick-up: Distributes patient meals; verifies diet and meal accuracy at point of service and retrieves soiled meal trays from patient areas and transports them designated cart.
  • Nourishments: Delivers nourishments to assigned patients, delivers bulk nourishments to assigned unit kitchens, and properly stores delivered bulk nourishments in unit kitchens.
  • Other: Upholds Advocate Lutheran General Hospital's Service Commitment through equality, compassion, excellence, partnership and stewardship. Uses courtesy and respect in all interactions with managers, co-workers, patients, staff and visitors. Maintains professional image and follows department dress code policy. Communicates patients' needs to nursing. Documents intakes on patients. Documents calorie counts for designated patients. Performs additional miscellaneous duties, communicating status to supervisor.
