About The Position

The Host/Hostess position is responsible for serving patient meals, assisting with set up and preparing snacks accurately and timely according to procedures. This role ensures patient satisfaction by following up after meal delivery and complying with all hygiene and safety protocols. The Host/Hostess utilizes basic diet therapy training to assist patients with menu selections and maintains food safety standards according to HACCP and department guidelines. They are also responsible for monitoring and delivering floor stock, checking for expired products, and logging refrigerator/freezer temperatures. Excellent customer service is paramount in this role, both at the point of service and in resolving any patient concerns. This position operates in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a focus on exceptional patient care, delivering approximately 120 meals per day.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred.
  • 6 Months experience in a food service position or applicable customer service experience required.
  • FHC - Food Handlers Certificate 30 Days required.
  • Reading, basic math, written language in English.
  • Cooperative, discreet, and courteous in handling customers.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Positive customer service attributes.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment while maintaining focus and quality service.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of food service experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve patient meals, assist with set up and prepare snacks accurately and timely according to procedures.
  • Return to the patient room within a reasonable period of time to pick up dirty tray and to confirm satisfaction with the patient.
  • Comply with hand hygiene, patient identification, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Utilize basic diet therapy training to assist patients in selecting correct menu items as needed.
  • Maintain food safety requirements according to HACCP and department standards in the performance of all duties.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area, ensuring compliance with health department and facility requirements.
  • Monitor, prepare, and deliver floor stock to designated units according to FIFO and check for expired product and/or prohibited food items.
  • Check and log refrigerator/freezer temperatures on the nursing units.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills at point of service and in resolution of complaints/concerns/ questions.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
