The Naupaka Host/Hostess is responsible for welcoming patrons, seating them at tables or in the lounge, and ensuring quality and rapidity of facilities and services. This role involves answering the phone, scheduling dining reservations, directing waitstaff, and resolving guest complaints. The Host/Hostess also inspects the dining room for cleanliness and orderliness, and assists waitstaff in expediting service. Essential duties include assisting the restaurant manager, reviewing daily schedules, assigning workstations, and managing occupancy reports and reservations. The role requires greeting guests, presenting menus, personalizing service, and maintaining knowledge of menu items. Adherence to service standards and SOPs, maintaining a clean work area, and thanking guests upon departure are also key responsibilities. Additional duties may include recommending resort facilities and maintaining menu cleanliness. The working environment can be indoors in restaurants or outdoors in various weather conditions. The role requires the ability to work shifts determined by the restaurant manager, potentially exceeding 40 hours per week. Equipment used includes the telephone. Mental and physical demands include managing seating for prompt service, standing, walking, and reaching during shifts, handling disgruntled guests, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Communication demands include verbal communication with employees, managers, and guests, as well as phone communication. Minimum qualifications include Department of Health TB clearance, ability to read and write, a pleasant and friendly demeanor, and being at least 18 years of age if serving or selling alcohol.
